Cryx Dread Armada Terminus Strategy: Building an Armoured Wall Around the Deathbringer

Cryx Dread Armada Terminus strategy looks very different from the faction’s usual emphasis on speed and swarming pressure.

Terminus instead builds an advancing wall of armour around one extremely difficult warcaster. However, his army still keeps the Dread Armada’s mobility, Dreadtides, and vicious counterattacks. For longtime Cryx players, the result feels familiar while offering a noticeably tougher playstyle. This is a sumamry of a community post found here.

Terminus Turns Deepstalkers and Dreadtides Into an Armoured Killing Machine

Cryx Dread Armada Terminus Strategy

Terminus has served Toruk for centuries, first commanding forces from Dragon’s Roost and gradually absorbing the Dragonfather’s corrupting blight. His body eventually became a monstrous fusion of bone, necrotech, iron, and enormous wings. After Cryx suffered devastating losses fighting the Orgoth, Terminus extracted secrets from prisoners and helped rebuild the Nightmare Empire’s armies. He also oversaw development of the first Cryxian blackships, earning elevation to Lich Lord for his efforts. Later, Terminus helped orchestrate the Scharde Invasions and planted Cryxian forces deep within the Iron Kingdoms. However, the Infernal War eventually forced those armies back toward the Scharde Islands.

Since then, he has patiently rebuilt Cryx’s naval strength for another mainland offensive. That methodical background makes his tabletop personality rather fitting. Terminus may be a strategist, but once fighting begins he becomes an enormous frontline murder machine. Unlike many Dread Armada warcasters, his main advantage is durability. Terminus has 35 damage boxes and ARM 19 before spending Focus to reduce incoming damage.

Entropic Shroud makes him considerably harder to remove by penalizing nearby enemy models. In practice, that pushes him toward an effective DEF 14 and ARM 21. Better yet, Blood Boon on Doomsayer can let Terminus cast the spell free after getting involved personally. The recommended Cryx Dread Armada Terminus strategy surrounds him with heavily armoured Deepstalker warjacks. Three suggested Deepstalkers use Heavy Plate prows and Claw Shields to reach ARM 21. Sacrificial Pawn then allows Terminus to redirect enemy ranged attacks onto nearby warjacks. Consequently, opponents trying to shoot the Deathbringer may simply hammer armour plating instead. That relationship works both ways once enemies close the distance.

Deepstalkers entering Entropic Shroud can effectively reach DEF 14 and ARM 23 against affected attackers. Suddenly, removing the warjacks protecting Terminus becomes another miserable proposition. A fourth Deepstalker takes Tidecaller and a Spiker for a more flexible role. Tidecaller helps reposition Dreadtide effects when they fall slightly short of an important target. For example, players can extend access to the crucial minus two ARM break effect. Alternatively, the minus two MAT and RAT effect can weaken something preparing to threaten Terminus. The fourth Deepstalker can also operate farther away because Terminus boasts a generous 16-inch control range.

Therefore, one heavy warjack can pressure a distant flank without abandoning the battlegroup plan.

The remaining army supports that dense central package with faster pieces. Satyxis Marauders and Reavers clear infantry, contest objectives, and prevent the heavy core from getting surrounded. Meanwhile, Scharde Ogrun Cannoneers make excellent home-objective guards and benefit from Commence Bombardment while aiming. Satyxis Storm Witches provide the essential Dreadtides, with at least two strongly recommended. Blood Hags may be even more important because they empower warjacks without consuming Terminus’ precious Focus. That leaves the Deathbringer free to maintain spells, absorb damage, and fuel his own offense. A Dredger armed with Ripteeth provides a nasty counterattack behind the Satyxis screen. Surviving infantry can position beside its target and enable Flank when the Dredger crashes in.

Finally, Undertow offers another defensive layer around Terminus. After using aggressive Dreadtides, Storm Witches can create Undertows ahead of the Cryx advance. Enemies then wade through shallow water or suffer reduced MAT and RAT before attacking. Overall, Terminus plays like a moving fortress surrounded by expendable pirates, support pieces, and heavily plated warjacks. His army still wants pressure, but it applies that pressure through stubborn forward momentum rather than pure speed.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Cryx Dread Armada Terminus strategy rewards players who enjoy advancing behind a brutally resilient central block. Terminus absorbs punishment while Deepstalkers protect him and become harder to kill themselves. Meanwhile, Dreadtides weaken key targets and Satyxis units keep the army from becoming slow or predictable. More importantly, the list still needs careful positioning despite all that armour. For Cryx veterans wanting something sturdier than the faction’s usual glass-cannon aggression, Terminus offers a very different kind of nightmare.
