Age of Sigmar Balance Update Tweaks Powerful Season Rules and Opens List Building

The latest Age of Sigmar balance update brings the first quarterly Battlescroll of the current season.

However, this is not a massive rules rewrite. Instead, Games Workshop targets problem interactions while giving weaker options some help. Several factions gain useful buffs, while a few standout tricks get trimmed.

The Quarterly Battlescroll Adjusts Every Grand Alliance

Age of Sigmar Balance Update

The universal changes immediately open more army-building options. Several infantry Heroes can now join regiments, while reinforcement restrictions disappear from many units. Therefore, players should have more freedom when constructing lists without fundamentally changing how armies operate.

Order receives several important nerfs. Fyreslayers can no longer use Blazing Impetus to move after being set up. Meanwhile, Idoneth Deepkin lose the movement reduction from Abyssal Dweller. The Cities of Sigmar War Hydra also gets a revised Impossible to Destroy, because apparently the name had become slightly too literal.

Chaos gets more mixed treatment. Krittok Foulblade no longer spends a Command Point for A Reputation for Cunning. Also, the Warlock Galvaneer’s Lightning Master now activates automatically. Slaves to Darkness Sorcerer Lords receive more reliable Oracular Visions. However, units carrying Ensorcelled Banners can no longer swap their Pledge to Chaos keyword. Helsmiths of Hashut also receive improved battle formations after their early rules underperformed.

Death sees the most substantial attention. Nighthaunt receive improvements to Lord Vitriolic, Scriptor Mortis, Shadowy Aura, and Death Stalkers. Meanwhile, reinforced Ossiarch Bonereaper units no longer pay extra Relentless Discipline costs, making abilities cheaper for larger formations. Soulblight Gravelords lose some power through a change to the Vengorian Lord’s Monster Frenzied Surge.

Finally, Destruction gets a targeted Gatebreaker Mega-Gargant adjustment. This specifically prevents an excessive combo with the new Rock-hurlers.

Summary and Final Thoughts

Overall, this Age of Sigmar balance update looks more like careful maintenance than emergency surgery. That is probably healthy for the game. Buffing underused pieces while clipping obvious combinations should create more viable lists without invalidating entire collections.
