GW Autumn Preview Reveals Warhammer Tone Pro Paint Range

The GW Autumn preview has delivered something hobbyists will actually use every week.

Games Workshop is launching an entirely new paint range. However, this is not just a handful of extra colours. Instead, Warhammer Tone Pro aims to make layering, highlighting, and blending much easier.

Warhammer Tone Pro Adds 150 New Paint Options

Warhammer Tone Pro introduces 30 colours, with each available in five numbered tones. Tone 1 is the darkest, while Tone 5 is the lightest. Therefore, painters can build shadows, midtones, and highlights without hunting across unrelated paint names. The range also promises stronger coverage from the first coat, including traditionally awkward colours like yellow and white. That alone should get plenty of hobbyists interested. Meanwhile, the pigmentation is designed for bright, intense finishes across reds, magentas, yellows, whites, and more. More importantly, the same paints can handle basecoating, layering, highlighting, glazing, and drybrushing. A new Shading Medium can turn Tone Pro paints into shades or glazes, while Blending Medium slows drying for smoother transitions.

Games Workshop is also launching four new dry brushes, ranging from XS to L, which are intended to reduce the chalky finish drybrushing sometimes produces. The paints will be available to try at Warhammer Stores and participating independent retailers from September 26. There is also a competition offering the complete paint range, all four brushes, and selected Warhammer Pro Tools.

Summary and Final Thoughts

Overall, this may be one of the most practical reveals from the GW Autumn preview. The five-tone system sounds especially useful for painters who want consistent highlights without endless colour mixing.
