Firestorm Gazala Campaign Report – Round 3

The final campaign round is here, can the Germans seize Tobruk in time?

Hi all, in this final installment we move into the middle of the three rounds of Firestorm Gazala! In our previous installment the German attack bogged down for much of the turn managing only 1 win. However, that one win allowed them to sweep through the last fortified location. Here is the map at the start of the turn:

Battle 1: German Victory

The Germans push past the American minefields, managing to pass 4 last stands and cling on long enough to secure the objective.

Remaining Games

Our group was still enjoying fighting the setting and thought to draw up a new plan. The campaign was technically over but we decided to fight out the remaining battles in order to see if the British could escape the pocket and/or retake Tobruk ahead of a final group game. We allowed the axis to re-arrange their troops first.

The remaining battles were ab it of a hodge podge of battles. Some people tried out their new Japanese units, while others stuck closer to the North Africa theme. The long and short of it is that the Axis managed to hold Tobruk but the British managed to open the pocket and evacuate their units. I have included some pictures below.

So there you have it. Our group has just finished the first campaign where the attackers have actually won. For our final group game the British are going to be the attackers as they make a final narrative push to take back Tobruk. For those of you keeping score at home may have noticed that the allies never once won the initiative a problem we will address in future campaigns.
