Victrix Miniatures are showing off previews for a full on starter set for their Dark Age wargame Pillage. Let’s take a look!
Victrix Miniatures released Pillage, a Dark Age and Medieval skirmish game in 2025. The game has quickly built a base of adherents among the dedicated fan base of hobbyists who enjoy Victrix’s catalog of excellent, plastic miniatures. The game was written by Guillaume Rousselot of Noodle Wargames and is meant to be played on a 4’x4′ table with 15-30 miniatures per side in the space of one to two hours. Originally designed to focus on the Viking and Early Medieval ages, Pillage focused on small raids and skirmishes, rather than large battles. Over time, several free expansions have been released through Victrix’s website, which expand the factions, scenarios and victory objectives. Victrix has also bundled several of its plastic sprues into warbands specifically for the game, and now it has announced an intro set with several unique items.
The Pillage intro set will come with everything needed to play the game, just like starter sets from the biggest companies out there. That means it comes with miniatures and a rulebook, but also terrain, dice, tokens, measuring devices and a play mat. This is an ambitious undertaking and a welcome one, judging by the response online. Victrix has made the set extra enticing by creating several unique offerings for it. There are sprues for the walls and roof of a thatched hut, as well as wattle fencing. There is also a sprue containing a sample of loot and animals that come from other sets. Lastly, the set will come with a sprue of six Irish warriors and a sprue of 8 Vikings. This means the Irish will be outnumbered, but they will have plenty of ranged options, while the Vikings are meant to be the aggressors, trying to get in and get out with the booty!
The set will retail for £42.50 in England, but that includes a 20% VAT. We do not yet know what the international price will be. The set it expected to go on pre-sale in roughly a week. This looks like a golden opportunity to jump into Dark Aged wargaming for anyone interested. Let us know what you think in the comments!
