Stop Guessing About the ‘Hidden’ Rule for Warhammer 40K: Why Footprint Certainty is the Secret to 11th Edition Success.
UPDATE: Our first batch of MDF bases sold out in 48 hours! We have just made more and added the Clear Acrylic options for the impending 11th Edition launch.
Last week, the wargaming world stopped to look at the 11th Edition preview. New models, new detachment rules—it’s all exciting. But as I was looking at the new mission maps, I realized the ‘Secret Sauce’ of 11th Edition isn’t in a datasheet. It’s in the Footprints. With the introduction of the ‘Hidden’ rule and the shift to -1 to hit Cover, the exact 2D area where your models are standing is now more important than the 3D walls they are standing behind.
In the ITC, we’ve always prioritized two things: Fair Play and Game State Clarity. When we saw the official 11th Edition layouts—with those specific 7” x 11.5” rectangles and 8” x 11.5” triangles—we knew players couldn’t just ‘eyeball’ these footprints anymore.
If you’re half-an-inch out of the footprint, you aren’t ‘Hidden.’ You’re a target. And in a high-stakes tournament, that’s the difference between a podium finish and a Turn 1 wipe.
That’s why we’ve launched the Official FLG 11th Edition Terrain Bases. These aren’t just pieces of wood or plastic; they are the exact blueprints for the new edition.

- Full-Color MDF: For the players who want the ITC Standard to blend seamlessly into our FLG Mats. It looks immersive, but provides mechanical certainty.
- Set includes:
- 4× 11.5″ × 7″ Full Color MDF Base
- 2× Triangle 8″ × 11.5″ Full Color MDF Base
- 4× 6″ × 4″ Full Color MDF Base
- 2× 10″ × 2.5″ Full Color MDF Base
- 4× 6″ × 2″ Full Color MDF Base

- Crystal Clear Acrylic: For the referees and the ‘Pro’ tables where you need to see exactly where that base edge ends without any doubt.
- Set includes:
- 4× 11.5″ × 7″ Clear Acrylic Base
- 2× Triangle 8″ × 11.5″ Clear Acrylic Base
- 4× 6″ × 4″ Clear Acrylic Base
- 2× 10″ × 2.5″ Clear Acrylic Base
- 4× 6″ × 2″ Clear Acrylic Base
We’re moving these in 16-piece ‘Standard Tournament Sets’ to match the official GW layouts. We rushed these out because we know the ITC community wants to start playtesting 11th Edition properly today, not six months from now.

Pro Tip: Once your footprints are set, use a Line Laser Ultra and FLG Tape Measure to confirm LoS and those 15″ detection ranges for the ‘Hidden’ rule in seconds.
