Market Garden Global Campaign Round 3

Market Garden Global Campaign

For the next week (until midnight on Sunday November 8th) you can log a game here and have it impact the overall campaign

Let’s take a look at this week’s battles!

3.1.1 — GEMERT ROAD

Market Garden Global Campaign

4TH ARMOURED BRIGADE
OPERATION ORDER – PRIORITY
To: 23rd Hussars and Forward Elements, 4th Armoured Brigade
Subject: Clearance of Gemert Road

SITUATION: Elements of the German 176th Infantry Division, reinforced by infantry from 9th SS, have established a blocking position astride the Gemert road. Expect fieldworks, concealed anti-tank weapons, and determined resistance from SS troops stiffening the line.

MISSION: 23rd Hussars will break the roadblock and open the route through Gemert for the continuing advance.

EXECUTION: Armour will probe cautiously until enemy gun positions are identified, then concentrate against a narrow frontage. Infantry support must clear farms, hedgerows, and roadside cover before tanks pass. Once the German line breaks, press through immediately.

Do not allow the enemy to withdraw methodically. Other friendly forces are manoeuvring against his rear, and sustained pressure here is essential to fix him in place.

REPORT: Road open, enemy armour and guns destroyed, prisoners, casualties, and direction of withdrawal to Brigade.

3.1.2 — VENRAY ROAD

Market Garden Global Campaign

4TH INFANTRY DIVISION
OPERATION ORDER – IMMEDIATE
To: Forward Battalions, 4th Infantry Division and 12th (Motorised) Battalion, K.R.R.C.
Subject: Advance along Venray Road

SITUATION: Kampfgruppe Chill has gathered a mixed force across the Venray axis. Expect experienced Fallschirmjäger, infantry stragglers, anti-tank guns, and improvised detachments operating under firm local command. Such formations have repeatedly proved more dangerous than their appearance suggests.

MISSION: 4th Division will break Chill’s defensive position and open Venray Road for exploitation.

EXECUTION: Infantry will engage and hold the main German positions while 12th K.R.R.C. searches aggressively for an open flank or weak sector. Once a breach appears, motorised elements are to pass through without waiting for every pocket to be cleared.

Chill’s strength lies in buying time and reorganising scattered troops. Deny him both. Maintain pressure after the first position falls and force his units into a continuous retreat.

REPORT: Enemy composition, roadblocks encountered, prisoners, casualties, and progress toward Venray to Division immediately.

3.1.3 — GEMERT REAR APPROACH

SHERWOOD RANGERS YEOMANRY
OPERATION ORDER – SPECIAL PRIORITY
To: Forward Squadrons, Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry
Subject: Attack on German Rear, Gemert Road

SITUATION: German forces along Gemert Road are expected to concentrate against the attack by 23rd Hussars and 4th Armoured Brigade. Their attention should consequently be directed westward, leaving rear positions, supply traffic, and command routes comparatively exposed.

MISSION: Sherwood Rangers will strike the German rear and turn the Gemert position before the enemy can react.

EXECUTION: Approach under maximum concealment and avoid unnecessary engagement with isolated troops. Once committed, move rapidly against road junctions, gun positions, transport, and headquarters elements behind the German line. Confusion is more valuable than ground.

When the enemy begins turning forces to meet you, press hard. The object is to make the Gemert defence untenable while 23rd Hussars attack from the front.

Do not become fixed in a prolonged fight. Mobility is your chief advantage.

REPORT: Enemy rear disrupted, roads cut, vehicles destroyed, and German reaction to Brigade immediately.
