2.1.1 — ALBERT CANAL BRIDGE

52ND (LOWLAND) DIVISION / 15TH (SCOTTISH) DIVISION
OPERATION ORDER – PRIORITY
To: 156th Infantry Brigade and Forward Elements, 15th (Scottish) Division
Subject: Seizure of Albert Canal Bridge
SITUATION: The Albert Canal crossing ahead is believed held principally by bridge guards, rear-area troops, and improvised security detachments. Enemy resistance is presently scattered, but demolition parties or reinforcements may reach the bridge if our advance is delayed.
MISSION: 156th Brigade, supported by elements of 15th Scottish Division, will seize the crossing and secure the road beyond.
EXECUTION: Press forward rapidly and overwhelm the bridge defence before it can organize. Forward companies are to secure both approaches, prevent demolition, and establish a lodgement on the far bank. Isolated resistance should not be allowed to delay the main effort.
The opportunity is temporary. Speed must substitute for weight.
REPORT: Bridge condition, enemy strength, casualties, and status of the far bank immediately upon seizure.

2.1.2 — HELMOND–BAKEL ROAD

3RD INFANTRY DIVISION
OPERATION ORDER – IMMEDIATE
To: 23rd Hussars and Sherman Yeomanry
Subject: Clearance of the Road North of Helmond
SITUATION: Fallschirmjägers have established positions astride the road north of Helmond and are attempting to check our advance. Enemy FW 190 aircraft have also been reported operating over the sector and may attack exposed columns.
MISSION: Armoured units will break the German blocking position and open the road toward Bakel.
EXECUTION: Advance dispersed until contact is made. Infantry will close upon the Fallschirmjägers while supporting weapons suppress identified positions. 23rd Hussars will exploit any breach immediately and prevent the enemy forming another line farther north.
Keep vehicles under cover where practicable and do not allow air attack to halt the advance.
REPORT: Enemy positions, aircraft activity, casualties, and progress beyond the objective to Division without delay.

2.1.3 — HELVOIRT ROAD

7TH ARMOURED DIVISION / 52ND (LOWLAND) DIVISION
OPERATION ORDER – PRIORITY
To: Forward Elements, 22nd Armoured Bdg and 155th Infantry Brigade
Subject: Advance on Helvoirt Road
SITUATION: German security troops under General von Tettau are being assembled hurriedly across the Helvoirt axis. Their formations are believed mixed and incompletely organized, but further detachments may strengthen the position if given time.
MISSION: 22nd Armoured Bdg and 155th Brigade will break through the security line and open Helvoirt Road.
EXECUTION: Armour will maintain pressure along the principal axis while Lowland infantry clears woods, buildings, and roadside positions capable of engaging the column. Exploit immediately wherever the defence gives way.
These troops have been gathered to gain time. Do not give it to them.
REPORT: Road open, enemy composition, prisoners, casualties, and direction of withdrawal to Brigade Headquarters.

2.1.4 — MAAS-WAAL CANAL BRIDGE

10. SS-PANZER-DIVISION “FRUNDSBERG”
GEFECHTSBEFEHL – DRINGEND
An: Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiere und verfügbare Kampfgruppen, 10. SS-Panzer-Division
Betrifft: Rückeroberung der Maas-Waal-Kanalbrücke
LAGE: American airborne troops have occupied the Maas-Waal Canal Bridge and are establishing a bridgehead on the approaches. If allowed to consolidate, they will provide the enemy a firm route toward Nijmegen and permit additional airborne forces to reinforce the crossing.
AUFTRAG: Armoured panzergrenadiers and available elements of Frundsberg will counterattack immediately and recapture the bridge.
DURCHFÜHRUNG: Strike before the Americans can strengthen their perimeter. Armour will support the assault against identified strongpoints while panzergrenadiers close upon the bridge approaches. Separate the defenders from reinforcement and force them back from the crossing.
The enemy must not be permitted to turn this temporary foothold into a permanent bridgehead.
MELDUNG: Report bridge condition, American strength, casualties, and result of the counterattack immediately.
