Join the Frontline: Terrain Designer
Independent Contractor (1099) • Project-Based • Fully Remote
Frontline Gaming (FLG) is looking for a talented terrain designer to join our roster of contract creators. This is a project-based, independent contractor role for someone who lives and breathes wargaming and wants to design the boards and gaming surfaces that thousands of players around the world roll dice on every week.
If you obsess over layout, line of sight, and the look of a great battlefield—and you can translate that vision into clean, production-ready artwork—we want to see your work.
About the Role
You’ll work with our team on a per-project basis to design tabletop terrain layouts and gaming board artwork. Each engagement is scoped individually, so you can take on as much or as little as fits your schedule. Your designs go straight into the hands of a passionate community of gamers.
What You’ll Do
- Design original tabletop terrain layouts and gaming board artwork for wargaming products.
- Develop concepts into clean, print- and production-ready files.
- Balance visual appeal with gameplay considerations like layout, balance, and line of sight.
- Collaborate with the FLG team on revisions and feedback to hit each project’s vision.
- Deliver finished assets on agreed project timelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Genuine passion for wargaming and tabletop games—you understand what makes a board great to play on.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or comparable design applications. (CAD-based design experience is equally welcome and counts in place of the above).
- A strong eye for composition, color, and detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and hit deadlines as a contractor.
- A portfolio demonstrating relevant design, illustration, or terrain/board work.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with popular wargaming systems and their terrain conventions.
- Experience preparing artwork for physical production (mats, boards, or printed goods).
The Details
- Classification: Independent contractor (1099).
- Structure: Project-based; scope and number of projects vary.
- Location: Fully remote—work from anywhere.
- Compensation: To be discussed based on project scope and experience.
Frontline Gaming is an equal opportunity collaborator and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds. We review submissions on a rolling basis and reach out to designers whose work fits upcoming projects.
