Late War Italy RSI Command Cards Add Flavor, Firepower, and Weird Tank Fun

The Italian RSI are getting a flavorful Command Card pack for Late War Italy.

However, this is not just a pile of generic upgrades. Instead, the pack adds formations, warriors, unit swaps, and army personality. For Flames of War players, that means more list-building texture immediately. This is a summary of the community post found here.

RSI Command Cards Bring Better Guns and Specialized Infantry

The preview starts by noting that RSI forces still get familiar cards like Softskin Transport and Lucky. However, the real interest comes from the cards that reshape formations and sharpen specific battlefield roles. The 8.8cm Anti-tank Platoon card is a great example. It lets players replace an RSI 7.5cm Anti-tank Platoon with a German 8.8cm Tank-Hunter Platoon. That is a huge jump from AT12 to AT17, which changes how opponents treat your gun line. Better yet, the card is not limited. So, if your force can take multiple 7.5cm Tank-Hunter platoons, you can upgrade several or all of them. The costs are clear too: two guns for 7 points, three for 11, or four for 14.

Meanwhile, the Tank-Hunting Platoon looks like the nasty infantry trick everyone will notice. It replaces one Infantry Platoon and costs 9 points. In return, you get four Rifle teams with Panzerfausts and three Panzerschreck teams. Also, it can fire two Panzerfausts each step, not just one. That means five AT11 or AT12 shots at a time, which is brutal in the right spot.

Leoncello Tanks and Division Cards Add Army Identity

Two Leoncello Armoured Group HQ cards from a tabletop game showing unit details flavor text and 0 points

The Leoncello Armoured Group is probably the most characterful formation previewed. Historically, it was an Italian-focused armoured force aimed at anti-partisan duties. On the table, however, it becomes a wonderfully oddball tank collection. You can field L3/35 Tankettes, L6/40 Light Tanks, M14/41 Mediums, P26/40 Heavy Tanks, and StuG M43 Assault Guns.

By this stage of the war, many of these vehicles are obsolete. Still, that is half the charm. A full sixteen-tank formation maxes out at only 20 points, making it an easy second formation. The infantry division cards also help shape the feel of a force.

Monterosa Alpini adds Mountaineer and improves Counterattack to 3+ for key units. Littorio Grenadiers improves Assault to 3+ for the HQ and infantry platoons.

San Marco Marines gives Fearless 3+ Motivation, which is expensive but useful. Finally, Italia Bersaglieri improves Terrain Dash to 10 inches and Follow Me to 3+.

Warriors Give Parachutists Extra Staying Power

Character card for Alessandro Tognoloni with unit Italian RSI Warrior Unit Parachutist Platoon and 3 POINTS

The RSI also get three warrior cards, and two are previewed here. Alessandro Tognoloni costs 3 points and upgrades an RSI Parachutist Platoon. That unit gains Last Stand 2+ and Counterattack 2+, making it extremely stubborn on objectives.

Unit card for Ferdinand Camuncoli Italian RSI Warrior Parachutist Breda Machine gun Platoon 2 points

Meanwhile, Ferdinando Camuncoli costs 2 points and upgrades a Parachutist Breda Machine-gun Platoon. That platoon gains Pinned ROF 3, Assault 3+, and Last Stand 2+. Overall, these cards make RSI forces feel scrappy, specialized, and surprisingly dangerous.
