11th Edition Ork Boyz Datasheet: Are Granular Combi-Weapons Back?

The 11th Edition 40k teasers are rolling in, and we recently got a look at the brand-new Ork Boyz datasheet. We threw the image up in the FLG Community Facebook Group to see what you guys thought, and the eagle-eyed competitive players immediately spotted some massive changes hidden in the wargear options.

If this datasheet is an indicator of how the rest of 11th Edition will be structured, the meta is about to shift in some very interesting ways. Let’s break down the two biggest takeaways and see what the FLG community had to say about it.

1. The “All-in-One” Boyz

In previous editions, Ork players faced the age-old dilemma: do you build your Boyz with Shootas, or do you build them with Sluggas and Choppas?

In 11th Edition, that choice appears to be gone—but in the best way possible. Looking at the “Unit Composition” section of the datasheet, it states: “Every Boy is equipped with: 1 slugga; 1 shoota; 1 choppa.”

The community immediately picked up on how huge this is for the green tide.

“What’s more important, look at the equipment… every boy gets a shoots AND slugs, AND choppa.” — Patrick M.

“The fact that orks now carry multiple weapons… time to invest in small plastic guns and rifles for older models.” — Martinez M.

This means your Boyz will be able to lay down decent volume of fire as they advance down the board, and still swing with full force once they hit the combat phase. It is a massive quality-of-life buff that makes the humble Ork Boy significantly more versatile.

2. The Return of Granular Combi-Weapons

This is the change that has players of other factions paying very close attention.

In 10th Edition, Games Workshop streamlined combi-weapons into a single, generic “Combi-weapon” profile (Anti-infantry 4+, Devastating Wounds). However, looking at the Boss Nob’s wargear options on the new Ork sheet, we see something completely different.

The sheet explicitly lists two separate profiles: a Kombi-rokkit and a Kombi-shoota. The wargear options state: “The Boss Nob can have its 1 kustom shoota replaced with 1 kombi-shoota and 1 kombi-rokkit.”

“You dont pick… it’s just you add those profiles to the unit, like you replace the shoots with both kombi weapons becuase they’re a combi gun.” — Robert D.

“Kombi shoota “and” kombi rocket historically have been one weapon with a profile you choose before firing… So this reads that you replace the kustom shoota for both but its intended to be one weapon.” — Liam M.

If combi-weapons are returning to specific, granular profiles (where a kombi-rokkit fires differently than a kombi-skorcha or a combi-melta), the ripple effects for other armies will be massive.

What Does This Mean for the Rest of the Game?

If this design philosophy carries over to the rest of the game, elite units that heavily rely on combi-weapons are in for a serious glow-up.

“Oh man if specific combo weapons come back my deathwatch are gonna be eating good.” — Gregory G.

“Would make chaos termies a bit better.” — Lucas W.

Chaos Terminators, Chosen, and Space Marine Sternguard Veterans could suddenly regain their specialized battlefield roles. However, not everyone in the community is thrilled about the potential return of tracking individual weapon profiles.

“Returning to granular changes in the wargear is a giant step backwards. I do NOT miss three different bolt rifle profiles on intercessors… Keeping track of a once per battle plasma or melta shot would be a nightmare like it was back in the old days… Everyone’s Rose colored glasses are strapped on very tightly.” — Nathaniel C.

Whether you love the streamlining of 10th Edition or miss the crunchy customization of older editions, it seems 11th Edition is trying to find a middle ground.
