Firestorm Bagration – Turn 5 Report

The penultimate turn is upon us! The German army is trying hard to recapture the fallen cities while the Soviets are desperately trying to reach their encircled forces!

Hi there, this the the next article covering my local gaming group’s battle through the Bagration Firestorm campaign, using a modified set of 3rd edition rules. You can see the past articles here!

For this round there is no bonus to the roll to attack so it will be a straight roll off. Here is the map at the beginning of the turn:

We rolled up 9 battles trying to limit the upper number of games as our group was starting to show signs of Bagraiton-fatigue!

Game 1: Pripyat – German Attack (Soviet Victory)

Seeking to close the pocket as quickly as possible the Germans continue to hammer away at the isolated Soviets who roll their 3rd straight “6” to get extra morale for the battle. This helps them hold on long enough to exhaust the Germans once more!

When your mine clearing equipment is the guy in front of you!

Game 2: Karpilovka – British Attack (German Victory)

In order to stave off some of the fatigue we started doing themed battles for fun, this one was British armored cars vs German ones, the first of two match ups we attempted. The Germans got perfect reserve rolls for what turned out to be a nail-biting game! You can check out the video battle report below!

Game 3: Karpilovka – British Attack (German Victory)

I wanted to try out a Polish Normandy list that would have won had my opponent’s Hetzer pass numerous 5+ motivations!

Game 4: Rudina – German Attack (Soviet Victory)

The German forces dragged out the trains again in a bull-rushing move to clear the Soviets and cut off the logistics for the northern front!

Game 5: Pripyat – German Attack (Soviet Victory)

The Soviets finally roll reduced forces for this battle but still mollywhop the Germans ending any further attempts to close the pocket.

Game 6: Dobryna – Romanian Attack (Romanian Victory)

The Romanians take on their old foes – the Hungarians. While the initial Hungarian defense is stiff the Romanians get some key veterancy-rolls and clear the town in the nick of time!

Game 7: Berezina – German Attack (German Victory)

Sadly didn’t get many pictures of this when one player tried running as many M3 Lees as he could….it didnt go well

Game 8: Dobryna – German Attack (German Victory)

For the last two battles we did separate Generals games for them as it allowed the group to play off-battle games to explore unique restrictions like: Medium tanks only, or the other British vs German armored car battle! So enjoy the pics from the bonus games. The winner of each game got a re-roll for the imitative for each win!

Game 9: Karpilovka – Soviet Attack (Soviet Victory)

This last battle gave the Soviets a huge leg up as they were able to redeploy a large number of troops in the south and threaten cities from Minsk to Pinsk

With the strategic moves and partisans resolved here is how the board looks ahead of turn 6:

With the Germans bracing for the final hammer blow the Soviets muster their forces for one last push. just us next time as we conclude this epic campaign series!
