With a monstrous artillery barrage the soviets swarm over the german trenches as the great campaign begins!
Hi all this is the next installment of our Flames of War Bagration campaign my group is running. We went through the set up already. Let’s get into the games!
Round 1: 9 Games – Soviets Initiate All Attacks
Game 1: Rechista into Berezina – Soviet Victory
Soviet surprise and airpower overwhelm a column of German Tiger tanks taking first blood for the USSR!
Game 2: Rudina into Bobryna – Soviet VIctory
A tough battler for the soviets sees them storm a tough defensive position containing a Tiger and Stug unit.
Game 3: Berezina into Ospivichi – German victory
The germans buy themselves some time by stopping the soviet assault on the banks of the Berezina river. A single King Tiger tank takes out 6 enemy tanks including 3 on overwatch to hold the crossing….for now
Game 4: Berezina into Ospivichi (Again) – Soviet Victory
Undaunted by their earlier defeats the Soviets attack again, this time south of the city, overcoming a German artillery unit and a much less defended ford.
Game 5: Gorodok into Sumalina – German Victory
The soviets fail to complete their encirclement of Vitebsk as their British allies run out of steam trying to cross the german entrenchments.
Game 6: Berezina into Zhlobin – Romanian (German) Victory
Now out of supply the Romanians gritted their teeth and prepared for the assault. A swarm of Churchill VIIS impervious to the Romanian AT guns descended upon their lines. Miraculously the Romanian cavalrymen outdueled their adversaries bringing down the mighty beasts with panzerfausts and close range fire.
Game 7: Gorodok into Sumalina (again) Soviet Victory
With the commissar’s threats hot in their ears the soviets finally crush the attempted German pincer and complete the encirclement of Vitebsk!
Game 8: Dobryna into Vitebsk – German Victory
Our fist group city fight rapidly bogs down into rules checks and some time issues. The Germans hold on as we try to decipher the intricacies of the No Step Back mission. Couldn’t find any game pics sadly.
Game 9: Dobryna into Bykhov – American (Soviet) victory
The American contingent makes its first appearance running headlong into a bunch of jadgpanthers. Clever use of a smoke bombardments sees hte might German war machines rent apart!
Strategic Phase:
In this phase the soviets mad an exploitation move to capture Zhlobin and both sides shuffle their forces around.
Heading into turn 2 here is how the board is looking:
No cities have fallen yet, but the three main ones are encircled! The German position is precarious, but with the opportunity to counterattack, and their best units moving into position the opportunity has never been better.
