Relaunching a game is never as simple as it sounds. Warlord Games wanted all five main Konflikt ’47 factions to have starter armies right away.
That plan was about getting players building and gaming fast. However, real world production limits hit harder than expected. So this update explains why the Soviet Bloc starter is being pulled and what preorder customers can do.
The Plan Versus Production Reality
The original goal was clear. Every starter army would include plastic infantry and walkers. At launch, that only proved possible for the Axis and US armies. Because of that, Warlord announced at the September Open Day that the Soviet Bloc, British Commonwealth, and Empire of Japan starters would use traditional or Warlord resin as a stopgap. Those resin starters then went up for preorder.
The production team managed to make the British Commonwealth and Empire of Japan sets work. However, the Soviet Bloc ran into serious problems. A few key components simply cannot be produced in quantity using either resin method. Warlord is blunt here. When their production experts say something cannot be done, it really cannot be done.
Why the Soviet Bloc Starter Is Being Removed
Because of those limits, Warlord decided to remove the Soviet Bloc Starter Army from sale. They also say they will plan a replacement product instead. It is a tough call, but they frame it as the responsible one. It is better than endless delays or shipping something half baked. They also openly apologize and admit they let people down.
Options for Existing Preorders
Some customers already preordered the Soviet Bloc Starter Army directly from Warlord. Those customers now get two choices. One option is a full refund. The other is to receive a complete starter army that includes some parts made from 3D printed resin. They stress that quality will stay high. However, 3D printed resin is not viable for mass production, so this option is only for existing preorders.
If you want the 3D printed version, you do not need to do anything. Warlord will produce and ship it as quickly as they can, though printing limits and the Christmas period may slow things down. They also note that 3D printed resin suits more experienced hobbyists. Like metal or resin kits, it needs superglue and may need extra cleanup.
If you prefer a refund, you can email customer service with your order number. They will process it as soon as possible, though responses may take a couple of days during the holiday rush.
Looking Ahead to Plastics in 2026
Warlord ends by pointing to the long term fix. From early 2026, they plan to release a steady stream of plastic kits. Importantly, the starter army miniatures will be near the front of that queue. They also thank the community for its enthusiasm and creativity, which they say has been overwhelming. The message closes with a promise to push harder to deliver the miniatures and games players expect.
Summary
Warlord aimed to launch starter armies for all five Konflikt ’47 factions. Only Axis and US could be plastic at launch, so Soviet Bloc, Commonwealth, and Japan were planned in resin. While two of those worked, key Soviet Bloc parts cannot be made at scale. As a result, the Soviet Bloc Starter Army is being removed and replaced later.
If you preordered directly, you can choose a refund or accept a version with some 3D printed resin parts. Finally, plastic kits are planned from early 2026, with starters getting priority. It is a frustrating setback, but the clear communication helps, and the plastic future should smooth things out.
