Warhammer Underworlds is stepping out of Embergard and into the gnarly wilds of Spitewood.
At first glance it looks serene, yet it absolutely is not. The locals call it the Hunter’s Paradise and the Untamed Weald for a reason. Consequently, every twig snaps like a warning and every shadow hunts you back. With the new set, we meet Kurnoth’s Heralds, who gladly show trespassers the exit.
Meet the Hunters of the Weald
Roaming these twisted paths are the Kurnothi, aelves and forest-born bruisers bound to Kurnoth. However, the hospitality ends at the tree line. Kurnoth’s Heralds are a three-fighter strike team: Ylarin, Master of the Paths, Cullon, Axe of Kurnoth, and Lenwythe, Eye of the Forest.
Each moves 4 and sports 5 wounds, which is chunky for a fast warband. Their defenses are modest, yet their tool kit makes every engagement feel stacked in their favor. Moreover, Grapple lets their hooves shove foes back with surprising force.
Lethal Profiles and Territory-Powered Inspiration
Damage is very much on the menu. Ylarin’s spear hits for 2 with Grievous on crits, which becomes innate when inspired. Cullon swings for 3 and gains Cleave on inspiration, turning armor into mulch. Meanwhile, Lenwythe brings reliable ranged pressure to finish runners or soften anvils.
Their Inspire condition rewards board control and aggression: after an Action step, if a fighter began in friendly territory and made a successful attack, that fighter inspires. Additionally, Swift Sentinels supercharges their home-field edge. While in friendly territory they count as Flying and cannot be Flanked, though they can still be Surrounded. Therefore, opponents must overcommit just to tilt odds.
Once-Per-Game Tricks That Flip Rounds
Kurnoth’s faithful never slow. The Endless Hunt triggers after a Herald attacks, pushing that fighter up to two hexes once per game. Consequently, you can chain into a second scrum, hop to safety, or snap an objective. Lenwythe’s Precision Volley fires a second shot at a different target, which chips leaders or cleans up stragglers. Furthermore, Ylarin can once per game add Cleave or Ensnare to a chosen weapon, letting him crack shields or skewer elusive foes exactly when it matters.
Playstyle, Pairings, and What’s Next
Kurnoth’s Heralds are a classic strike warband that thrives on tempo. You want to hold your half, spring from friendly territory, and score while bullying lanes. Additionally, they pair naturally with the Hunting Grounds Rivals deck in Spitewood, which leans into territorial dominance and chase pressure. Next up, the preview turns to the Blood of the Bull, who are storming in for payback against Kurnoth’s followers.
Spitewood trades mine dust for leaf-littered death, and Kurnoth’s Heralds feel right at home. Because they blend mobility, precision, and territorial rules, they punish sloppy advances and reward smart staging. Ready your paths, set your traps, and then make every hex feel like hostile ground.
