To celebrate, Warhammer TV has released a brand-new animated vignette titled “The Enemy Without – A Deathwatch Vignette,” created in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks and SAFEHOUSE. This short film perfectly captures the grimdark atmosphere of Warhammer 40,000, focusing on the elite Deathwatch Space Marines in battle against the relentless Necrons.
Directed by Erasmus Brosdau, a lifelong Warhammer fan, the vignette immerses viewers in the brutal, gothic action that the franchise is known for. One standout scene features a Necron Skorpekh Lord emerging from the wall, showcasing the high-stakes combat between Deathwatch Marines and their mechanical foes. The slow build-up explodes into fast-paced action, making the battle sequence a thrilling highlight.
The vignette’s score, composed by Wilbert Roget, II, adds another layer of tension, with dark and militaristic tones that fit the unforgiving universe of Warhammer 40k. Roget masterfully balanced the grim nature of the setting with a hummable, anthem-like melody that echoes the grandeur of war.
Producer Hiroaki Yura, who has been playing Warhammer since childhood, emphasized the challenge of capturing the authenticity and atmosphere of the universe. He shared how his passion for the lore and miniatures influenced the production, with deep attention to the details of Space Marines, Necrons, and the environments they inhabit.
