Hey Warhammer fans! If you thought the Skaventide launch box was exciting, wait until you hear about the rest of the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. There’s a whole lot more to dive into, starting tomorrow with an in-depth look at the Stormcast Eternals. Let’s break down what the Warhammer Studio has been cooking up for us!
Full Re-Index of Every Warscroll
First off, the entire game has been re-indexed. Every single warscroll has been refactored and rebalanced. This isn’t just a touch-up; it’s a full overhaul to make sure everything aligns with the new edition’s vision.
Consistent Characteristics Across Factions
One of the main goals was to ensure that the rules really reflect the rich lore of the Mortal Realms. To do this, they standardized characteristics for different types of creatures:
Elite units and weaker fighters have their own tweaks, but these archetypes provide a solid foundation. Heroes have also been differentiated based on whether they’re combat specialists, priests, or wizards.
Health and Save Characteristics
Health and Save stats were re-evaluated based on the miniatures’ size and armor. Hundreds of minis were compared to determine where these characteristics should fall, ensuring each unit’s stats make sense visually and in gameplay.
Unique Roles for Every Unit
The team made sure that every unit has a specific role on the battlefield, realized through unique abilities. Each faction has its own specialties and tactics, but internal balance within armies was crucial. Infantry, cavalry, and war machines were differentiated to give each unit a clear purpose, whether it’s holding objectives, positioning, or countering threats.
Changes to Rend and Anti-X Abilities
Rend has been tweaked overall, with a reduction in general but an increase in Anti-X abilities. This means units will hit harder against their preferred targets. Combat remains brutal, so don’t worry – rolling loads of dice to inflict no wounds won’t be an issue.
Balancing Battle Traits
Battle Traits have been streamlined to reduce complexity, making gameplay smoother. This means some factions will see bigger changes than others. For instance, factions like the Lumineth Realm-lords and Cities of Sigmar will have fewer tokens to manage, simplifying their mechanics.
Faction Packs
Each faction’s Faction Pack will include everything you need: Battle Traits, Battle Formations, Heroic Traits, Artefacts of Power, Lores, Spearhead Battle Traits, Regiment Abilities, Enhancements, and all the warscrolls. These packs will be available as physical card packs at launch and will be downloadable for free shortly after.
