Hi all,
In a previous post I outlined a proposed narrative map campaign that I would be running for some Old World players. Now that we are a few weeks in, let’s recap what is working and what isn’t!
We are about 7 weeks in and the board is filling nicely. Players have been using the scouting mechanic to help speed things up and it allows players to make some progress (although they can’t get resources) even when they can’t play that week.
What’s Working:
- The player mechanics are going well, everyone is scouting, although they often forget they can’t grab resource
- People seem to be having fun, and engagement has been good with most players playing at least 1 game a week. We have had one challenge but the person challenged was out of town.
- Balance has been decent, although one player has a clear lead, others are within striking distance.
- The NPC mechanic is working well although a few interactions are unclear.
What needs tiding up:
- Not much honestly, I need to clarify what happens in the case of a tie, with another campaign player maybe both people get a territory on a 4+? For an NPC that’s harder, I have given the campaign player the benefit of a free territory, maybe make it trigger on a 3+?
- Maybe some form of catch up mechanic for one poor guy who has lost to NPCs three times and has failed to roll 4+ at all and so remains stuck.
- I hoped to do some custom missions, or localized effects but that has failed miserably due to time constraints.
The campaign should wrap up in the next month or so, and I will try my hand at organizing a mega battle so stay tuned!
