Hey everyone! Adam, FLG Head Judge and TFG Radio host, here to give you an overview of the Battletech events from their organizer.
Classic Battletech
Classic Battletech was well represented at LVO 2024, with three different events going on throughout the weekend. Our first event was the Battletech Through the Ages tournament that occurred on Friday. Players developed a faction-based list and moved it through four different Battletech eras (Succession Wars, Civil War, Jihad, and ilClan), playing one objective-based mission in each era. With a custom scorecard and random secondary objectives, there were plenty of ways to gain points, but in the end the top three players were: Jesty (71 pts), Brad (68 pts), and David P. (67 pts). Congratulations to Jesty as well as all the other players that walked away with fun swag/prizes as well as recognition of their own unique gameplay achievements!
On Saturday – Sunday we had two events happening: the Campaign-in-a-Day Tukayyid and Battletech:Escalation. The Campaign-in-a-Day allowed players to jump into a mini-campaign system and experience battles between the Inner Sphere defenders and the invading Clans. Three large scenarios with repairs and force selection in between each led the Clans re-writing history and winning the day. Battletech: Escalation started players off with one unit and added on to their force each round, going from Solaris VII play all the way up to company-sized Alpha Strike. After chaos in the Solaris rounds and a lot of destroyed units in the Classic Battletech and Alpha Strike rounds, Greg emerged with the highest score. Finishing up Battletech: Escalation was a great way to finish up a fantastic weekend full of Classic Battletech.
Alpha Strike
Alpha Strike had another strong showing at LVO 2024. The weekend started off on Friday with the popular Alpha Strike 350 tournament, bringing together players from throughout North America to compete for the winners trophy. Playing five different rounds of objective-based scenarios throughout the day, including Domination, Hold the Line, Bunkers, Headhunter, and King of the Hill, the leader board changed every round. In the end, the heat heavy list of Greg W. pulled out the win and the trophy. Congrats to Greg and all the other players that had a blast playing through the tournament.
On Saturday the crew played out a “historical” Campaign-in-a-Day by working through the lore-based scenarios from the Turning Points: Helm sourcebook. Players landed on either the side of the Grey Death Legion or the Free Worlds League and played through 6 different scenarios that pitted the two forces against one another. In another lore-flipping result, the Free Worlds League managed to dispatch the vaunted Grey Death Legion with overwhelming destruction of the GDL units. Playing a whole campaign in a day was a treat for players and great way to wrap up Alpha Strike for the weekend.
Thank you for the coverage. I have a write up at the link below for anyone who wants additional details on the Alpha Strike 350 tournament and the Escalation event:

Feel free to ask any questions you might have about that here or on reddit.
I had a blast playing Classic Battletech on Friday and the Alpha Strike “Campaign in a Day” on Saturday (I especially enjoyed taking strategic command leading the FWL to victory against the GDL). So glad to see Battletech making a comeback!
Reading this article I felt like I was there, going through each day’s Big-n-Stompy events right beside you! Thank you for that,
And with CGL’s BattleTech Mercenaries Kickstarter set to fulfill later this year, the future of BattleTech is as bright and shiny as a new penny…
*”a new penny” ~ darn I’m old. lol : )
