GW Grognard: I’ll do anything for 40K, but I won’t do that

Hey everyone! Adam, from TFG Radio, here to talk about the things that I want to talk about, which happens to be 40K.

I love 40K. Having played the game for so long I have a large investment in the game. the background continues to keep me interested in the game as well as the new models and armies. I keep looking and making lists for armies that catch my eye and think to myself “That would be a cool army to play”. This really does apply to every army they make, basically. Many times I actually act on this impulse and all of a sudden I have a new army that needs to be built and painted. This brings up a few things that I just don’t do.

He has seen some stuff

Painting Eyes

Early on I realized that painting was never going to be my thing. this has been further enforced with the recent issues with my vision. Although I can still paint models to a tabletop standard I have never felt compelled to really going beyond that. This has made me not even try to paint eyes. You will find that most of my army wears helmets, especially if they wear power armour. You can really see my lack of eye painting in my guard army as I have not painted any of the 100+ pairs of eyes in the army. They just have ghostly white pupils. I have no plans to change this attitude. Maybe I’ll just be sure all my soldiers have helmets or sunglasses.

This is not what I mean

Drilling Gun Barrels

I really don’t get what the deal is with people wanting to drill their gun barrels. Yeah I get that it makes the model seem more realistic but your playing a game set thousands of years in the future so that doesn’t fly for me. There is also the fact that many times you don’t see the front of the model in order to appreciate the drilled gun barrel because the models are usually facing away from you. Sure your opponent could appreciate the drilled barrels but many times, especially in a tournament, they are too busy figuring out how to beat your army and really may not care about this issue, unless they too obsess or this piece of minutia. I just think my time could be better spent on other endeavors, like building more models. Plus there is less risk of injuring myself if I were to try it. Trust me on this one.

That’s perfectly fine

Trimming Mold Lines

This last one is the biggie for me but I also use it in a creative way. I absolutely hate having to trim mold lines. it is a necessary evil that I try to avoid as much as possible. If you don’t know, and why don’t you, I play chaos as my main army. Because of this there is a way that I try to get away with not trimming the mold lines. I simply tell people that the mold lines are a chaos mutation and that is why they are there. thanks to the power of chaos, I can now freely leave the mold lines and continue on with making my army tournament ready. I know this seems like a cop out but why else would the gods of chaos put this evil on me with the amount of mold lines some of these older models have? I mean I already have to deal with tons of banding.
