The Warhammer-community team brings us info on the new mini starter sets coming up for pre-order for those of you that want to snag more of the Indomitus models but only specific parts of it, or that want a more affordable entry into the hobby. We will have these for sale at discounted prices in our web-cart!
In yesterday’s Sunday Preview, we introduced the shiny new Warhammer 40,000 Starter Sets that will be available to pre-order this weekend. In today’s article, we’re lifting the lids to take a look at the contents of each set in greater detail. Let’s kick things off with the…
Recruit Edition
Perfect For You If: You’re after the Starter Set with the most accessible entry level.
The Recruit Edition Contains:
The Recruit Edition includes a gaming manual to help you learn the basics of the game. In it, you’ll find a detailed description of the grimdark setting of Warhammer 40,000, as well as an overview of the Space Marines and Necrons pitted against one another in the set.
The background section is followed by a handy stage-by-stage guide to help you assemble your push-fit miniatures – with no glue required, you’ll have your models built in no time!
With your miniatures assembled and ready for battle, the Recruit Manual then goes on to teach you the key elements of playing the Warhammer 40,000 game itself over the course of six missions. You don’t need any prior knowledge of the game to play through these missions – each has been specially designed to teach you the basics in a fun, challenging and exciting way.
After playing through all six missions with a friend or family member, you can even try swapping sides to see if you can do better while reinforcing what you’ve learned. Once you’re confident of your mastery of the basics, the Recruit Manual goes on to suggest some additional units with which to expand the Space Marines and Necrons forces in the set, and even provides you with their datasheets and a new mission to play once you’ve done so!
Elite Edition
Perfect For You If: You’re confident enough to command a larger, more powerful force of warriors – led by two powerful Characters – into battle.
The Elite Edition Contains:
The Elite Edition includes a more formidable force of Space Marines and Necrons. Not only do their armies include an additional unit apiece – Outriders and Skorpekh Destroyers respectively – but a different set of Characters too. In place of a Primaris Lieutenant and a Royal Warden, you get a Primaris Captain and a Necron Overlord, both representing senior ranks within their Faction. What’s more, by combining a Recruit and Elite Edition, you’ll get loads of units and two different types of Character too!
The Elite Manual included is identical to the Recruit Manual, in that it introduces the setting, Factions and Warhammer 40,000 game in accessible, bite-sized chunks. However, it includes an additional eight pages of content, providing extra information and assembly guides for the units included in the set.
Command Edition
Perfect For You If: You’re after a more immersive learning experience, complete with a dedicated gaming board and battlefield scenery. This is the ultimate way to get started with Warhammer 40,000.
The Command Edition Contains:
Put simply, the Command Edition is the most comprehensive Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set. Not only does it include the same expanded haul of miniatures as the Elite Edition, but it provides you with a double-sided, fold-out gaming board and even brand-new scenery with which to populate your battlefield!
The Command Manual features the same information, assembly guides, and missions as the Elite Edition. However, once you’ve mastered the basics, the Command Edition also provides you with the perfect means to continue learning the game with a Warhammer 40,000 The Rules book. This 184-page tome includes the full range of rules sections found in the Warhammer 40,000 Core Book, from all 39 missions split between open, narrative, and matched play, to the innovative Crusade campaign system.
The Command Edition makes expanding your Warhammer 40,000 experience as easy as possible – not just by including the full rules, but the modular nature of the gaming board itself is the perfect start to a larger battlefield. For example, the addition of the Battlefield Expansion Set will double the size of your gaming area and terrain collection (perfect for Incursion-scale games*) in one fell swoop!
All three grades of Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set are available to pre-order this weekend, along with the Command Edition Battlefield Expansion Set for those looking to kickstart their Warhammer 40,000 journey with a bang. We’ll be back later in the week with a more detailed look at the awesome new terrain included in the Command Edition, but until then, head on over to the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page and let us know which Starter Set(s) you’ll be picking up.
* The minimum recommended battlefield size for an Incursion game, which pits larger armies against one another (1000 points or 50 Power per side), is exactly the same size as two of the Command Edition’s gaming boards placed next to one another. Perfect!
