News
- GW has announced a new 40k animated series on the way and so far it looks promising!
- There’s also been a big FAQ update for AoS! Expect a recap article on FLG soon to highlight the big changes.
- FW is previewing a mystery model, what do you think it can be?
- We’ve also got a flash sale going on! We’ve got some brand new ITC Terrain and FLG Mats so we decided to have a warehouse clearing sale to move some of the sizes we’re a bit overstocked on.
- We rolled out the updated ITC/LVO 40k Updates! This is a project we’ve been working on for a long time and with the help of a great many contributing TOs from around the world, so a huge thanks for that. Per usual, whenever things change there is some conversation that comes up so we wanted to address some of it and answer any questions!
- People are settling in to Chapter Approved and Vigilus, and we’re already seeing the impacts of it on the meta. Exciting times to be a 40k player!

So, just FYI the Ultramarines movie was written by Dan Abnett.
Hopefully this turns out better.
I did not know that, but, I have read many times that he actually doesn’t know the lore of 40k very well which is why his 40k stories have so much stuff he makes up in them.
It’s more the fact that he gets a lot of creative freedom from the editors and so he tends to reinvent a lot of stuff where he doesn’t need to. Like with the Heresy era Space Wolves in Prospero Burns, which is an unreadable pile of crap.
Yeah, I don’t know for certain of course, but I’ve read that he’s just not a big time 40k nerd and so wings it on a lot of stuff.
My #1 Controversial 40K Opinion is that C.S. Goto is no worse a writer than Dan Abnett. It’s just that people give Abnett a pass on all the ways he screws up 40K background and details, for whatever reason.
I’ve heard from a lot of people that there was studio interference on the story as well, which I can well believe. Though that certainly does not discount Dan from any blame, because he does tend to go overboard a lot.
The Ultramarines move certainly kickstarted Dan Abnett’s screenwriting career. His made it all the way up to be a writer on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies from Disney. So good for him.
Not sure where the numbers come from, but the people on the Long War podcast said (claimed?) the budget of the Dawn of War intro scene (1 minute?) was significantly larger than the budget for the entire Ultramarines movie, all things included (animation, writing, voice acting, etc.., etc..).
I thought he got that gig because he was the writer on the comic series that re-booted the Guardians and brought them at least somewhat back into popularity.
Yeah, same. He wrote the rebooted Guardians of the Galaxy comics the movies were based on. I highly, highly doubt anyone saw the space marine movie and said to themselves : let’s give that writer a major motion picture!

Quoted from a class room teacher, right?
😉
Thank you, Reece.
