- Be sure to join us for Monday Night Fight! Tonight we’ve got AdMech vs. Drukhari per our subscriber poll. If you’re a sub, cast your vote for Tuesday’s game during tonight’s game.
- SoCal Open tickets keep selling. It seems folks are pleased with 8th ed and are showing it with their dollars. Make sure to pick yours up, soon.
- It’s almost that time, baby! Las Vegas Open 2018 registration will open in July, so start setting aside a few pennies.
- The Bay Area Open 2017 is going to be an awesome event and will showcase the new edition of 40k! It will be a ton of fun to see the meta develop and what lists will jump out early. We’re going with book standard rules for matched play: 2,000pts, 3 detachments, battle-forged armies. We’re considering going with the +1 to go first for the player who finishes deploying first mechanic, but we’ll wait to make that decision until everyone has had a chance to play for a bit and let the BAO attendees choose.
- That beautiful Industrial terrain and mat you all were raving about on the stream is going up for pre-order very soon! Keep your eye on FLG to snag yours!
- As we continue to come closer to the release date for the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 8th edition, more and more folks are getting in practice games, and experiencing it for themselves! We are also getting bombarded with questions as folks adjust to this cool new edition of the game. Feel free to shoot me more questions today and I will answer all that I can.

Can we get some more different faction, like Tau before repeating factions like Drukhari? Granted it’ll probably be a different style list. Would like to see other faction mechanics.
Appreciate the batreps though. Really insightful.
We try to mix things up as much as possible but we are limited a bit. We can throw Tau up on tomorrow’s poll, as Frankie is gone till Wednesday and he plays them.
How about some Tau vs IK action! 🙂
We want a match, not a massacre!
Sure, that’s a tough game for both parties!
Glad you’re enjoying them =)
Can psykers target characters in the psychic phase with psychic powers, even if they are not the closest unit? Jaws of the World Wolf, for example, can realistically one-shot many support characters or even HQs.
So, after checking the rules yes, you can. The restriction on targeting characters is only in the shooting phase.
Sniper psykers!
seems like an oversight lol
2nd Ed actually explicitly allowed this, justifying it because, well, they’re Psychic! 😉
I don’t think it is, actually.
It’s possible but not super-likely; remember, you can always use a Command Point for a reroll if it’s a critical character.
Do you know if there is a typo on the Sob Retributor superior only having LD 7, al other superiors have a ld of 8-9. The regular Retributors have ld 7.
That sounds like an oversight, thanks for pointing it out.
Also I may have missed it in your streams, but have you gone over the 3 warlord traits? +1 attack when charging, 6+ “FNP”, and shared leadership?
We never mentioned it and honestly forgot to use it! lol. But we did in the latest stream.
List of questions:
1. How to measure movement/range when moving up/infiltrating/charging against units that are on ruins. Seems like: movement – measure until the place you want to be on the ground and add height; infiltrate – range directly from the models on ruins. Charge – same as movement?
2. Everything to do with modifiers and re-rolls: stuff that happens on 1 and 6 with modifiers, -1 modifiers and re-rolls/overwatch, etc. For now we just play like 7th since we think it’ll be FAQd since it seems way too confusing otherwise.
3. Slaanesh and CP. Opponent charged with 2. He attacks with 1, I interrupt and attack with 1, then I pick a slaanesh and only then he attacks with 2nd charged? Or does the interrupt go into the “fight queue”.
4. With the +1 roll-off first turn (house) rule: can you re-roll with CP. Do you still steal innitiative(I think “no” on this one)
IK vs Horde Orks now viable? Or is it still really one sided?
Hi! I felt the need to break down probabibilities of our proposed changes to who go first and throw in alternatives with my (subjective) pros and cons. I know you will decide in the future, but wanted to give referenc /feedback
Knight player in examples means “Low drop maximizing player”
Base Rules – “Knights” are first 83(3)% of the time
Your change (roll off, Knight gets +1) – Knights go first ~62% of the time (after roll to seize). Personal opinion – this is clunky and obfuscates percantages. Knights are likely feel statisical results as bad beats)
Alternative #1 (Roll to seize is 5+) – “Knights” are first 66(6)% of the time. Higher percentage than your change (surprisingly), Opinion: This would be much clearer for both sides, I think. It’d seem like major change, but is less impactful than your and fits within existing rules parameters
Alternative #2 (Roll off, Knights gets +2) – “Knights” are first ~71% of the time (after roll to seize) Opinion: The clunkiest of clunky rule, but mathematically a middleground
Hope that this will be somewhat useful and glory be to Frankie!
Have started playing 8th and must say I really enjoy the dynamic of whichever army finishes deploying first can choose who has first turn. It really adds a fun dynamic to list building and deployment. I’d be disappointed to see the rule changed.
If knights are a problem, then change the rule just for knights?
Have you tried playing against hard-core shooty armies that optimize for first turn? it’s not fun. However, this change, if it were to occur, would only be for tournament play, not for general play.
The community is just starting to play 8E, so clearly I haven’t faced all the possible opposing lists yet. But along those lines, the rules don’t even officially come out until this weekend. Why not give the tournament meta a chance to settle out before changing rules? A week or two is not enough time.
Tourney players are big boys and girls. If low unit count shooty lists end up being dominant, I have no doubt the meta will adjust to respond. If it turns out the broader community can’t find a viable counter, then that would be the time to pursue a rules change.
Just my two cents.
I get it. But, if we do anything we want to do it with enough time to adjust for bao. And, we’ve been playing these rules for a while now, our opinions on it are founded in a lot of experience. However, we’re not forcing anything. We’ll let folks decide for themselves.
They’ve played a 100+ games on the new ed when testing. I’m sure they are aware as to how broken the current mechanic is
The community as a whole will have played 50x that number of games within the first month alone. The strength of the ITC FAQ in the past has been that it’s been driven by the community vote.
All I’m saying is give people time to digest the new rules and vote on them before making a unilateral rules change. Pretty sure Reece gets what I’m saying.
I do =)
Would be really nice to see Frankie play some Death Guard when he gets back, I recall he has a bunch of plague marines from a few editions ago.
I really hope they adjust the wargear tables in the 8th codexes, currently AM company commanders can take Hell Hammer Cannons (0 cost) or other absurd options, GSC can’t select half of their wargear. Due to the dataslate referencing tables in 7th edition not 8th…
That is just to name a couple
The lists the dataslates are referencing are the ones at the start of each section, not the Points lists in the back. The Ranged Weapons list that the Company Commander has access to is just Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Plasma Pistol, for example.
Ahh missed that entirely thanks!
