List Review
Is there going to be an update on ITC army format based on feedback from the LVO (such as reduced army size.
1850 although fun, just seems to let more of the crazy in and with the abundance of rules out now, its becoming more of a headache to keep track of whats what. I love the diversity that 7th has brought, but I almost miss the days when ‘real’ tactics weren’t about who can cherry pick the best set of rules combinations to win the game (which can still fail you of course, but lets be honest here it certainly makes it MUCH MUCH easier when the army kinda wins by itself…).
It is what it is of course and either way it will be blast, but fingers crossed we some change this year.
wow my typing sucks, please pardon my horrible grammer
Hey Reece, you know what would make Guilliman work really well?
Allowing the Electro-displacement psychic power to work as described on the card. He could be in combat turn 1 chopping his way through those pesky death stars we all find so tasteless 😛
I would like to give the big PeteyPab stamp of approval to this. As long as Guilliman is the ONLY model that is allowed to charge using this power.
Yeah, but if the power works both ways then the deathstar is crushing dreams turn 1, too 🙁
This can be addressed, my friend!
As a community we have the power to add limitations to these powers without changing the way they work quite as much.
What if we allow the power to only be cast on units that are comprised from only a single datasheet?
Eg: A squad of Terminators, a squad of Death Company, etc.
If we add an IC to the unit the power can no longer work.
This will limit it from empowering Death Stars even more, whilst buffing units in more balanced armies.
An Imperial Knight is a unit from a single datasheet. So are lots of other dangerous things.
The power does not affect vehicles.
Ummm… what do you mean by “only cast on units that are comprised from only a single datasheet?”
Do you mean that both the targetted unit AND the psyker’s unit have to be from a single datasheet? Because in that case the power would still basically be banned. Librarians are never going to be by themselves. They’re always going to be in a squad.
And if you only mean that the targetted unit (but not the psyker’s unit) has to be a single datasheet then you aren’t nerfing it at all. Just stick the psyker in a deathstar and swap them with some scouts. Profit.
Well, as it stands the power has absolutely no use under the ITC FAQ.
I’m proposing it works as intended but limiting the unit that it can be cast upon.
There are already formations that allow Terminators to charge straight after deepstriking. No one is concerned about that because they can be dealt with. What I’m suggesting would empower some otherwise unusable Assault Units.
And yes, the psyker would have be by himself when casting it.
So then your solution leaves it equally useless. Because you’re never going to see a lone Librarian that is ever able to get somewhere useful with that power.
Not sure then what’s the point of wanting to re-write the power if it’s still going to have absolutely no use.
And I’d argue the current ITC FAQ is a lot more useful than what you’re suggesting. Because at least it allows you to get an important unit in a position you want it in and it still allows for shooting attacks even if it doesn’t allow for charges. It’s far from useless.
Swapping one Librarian with a unit is, though..
I’m going to use the power… It still moves units across the board, which is very powerful.
What’s stopping a Librarian from leaving a unit and then casting the power?
Add an additional element of tactical play. The Libby gets someone into combat, but leaves himself exposed as a result.
>Well, as it stands the power has absolutely no use
Other than moving a unit across the table. You know, like it’s supposed to do.
Just because it doesn’t guarantee a first-turn assault doesn’t mean it’s useless.
There are already powers that move units across the board, and they do it better without having to get anyone into position.
With the ITC FAQ it’s redundant.
I’m saying it should be changed so it’s unique again and actually does something different WITHOUT working on invincible Death Stars!
I understand the sentiment here, but we already get (false) accusations of playing favorites with the Imperium and this would actually be doing that, lol
You wound me, Reece…
This would also be a boon to Chaos 😀
Chaos is limited in that they don’t have auto-arriving drop pods on turn 1 that can drop in danger close without risking a mishap.
Sure, in the current ITC version you could swap a group of infiltrating Alpha Legion Cultists with a sorcerer cabal in a unit of 20 KDK hounds, but they wouldn’t be able to charge and they’re fast enough as-is that there’s no point if they can’t charge. And, in your proposed version, there’s no way to get a lone sorcerer that close to the battle turn 1 to do any useful swapping.
You could have Huron as Warlord and infiltrate a Sorc, move him up and then swap with a Daemon Prince or something similar.
Chaos definitely have the tools.
I mean, yes, if you’re willing to waste 160 points on Huron as an HQ choice, 125+ on a sorcerer (who you have to *hope* can roll the power) and then another ~300 on a kitted out daemon prince who’s going to get to combat turn 1, smash whatever he faces, and then get shot to pieces turn 2 because he’s T5 with 4 wounds… yes I suppose you could do that.
But I could think of a lot better ways to spend almost 600 points.
I sure do feel bad for the Imperium, not being able to put their 2+/3++ resurrecting S10 AP1 autohits character into combat on turn 1. That must really sting, to have to move your units across the field like a normal player rather than getting to place them anywhere on the table you want to at any time without any possibility of something bad happening.
Look, Tyranids, we know your Carnifexes (and the rest of your codex) are garbage. A 6″ move for a monstrous creature with a meh armor save, meh toughness, and meh wounds makes for a bad unit.
But Imperium players just can’t stand the fact that their super unit with an amazing statline can’t be automatically guaranteed to get into combat turn 1 and wreck everything you own.
And, well, Spess Mehreens make up 50% of our revenue so we’re sorry but we’re going to have to help them out…
-GW, probably
In regards to your conversation about jump packs.. What about going with gw’s idea that walls are impermeable? Wouldn’t that give a pretty good advantage to jump packs that bikes would not have?
I think it is funny that we even bring up grav. For other armies besides space marines, Roboute is a tough nut to crack.
Not impossible… probably easier then a WK? Haven’t done the math there though.
