Mike: Pre-Game Thoughts

I’ve been looking forward to this game since the match ups for the master’s league were first posted, and especially after Cooper (aka: Coop Juice) posted his predictions that had me losing. I’ve played Reecius once before, had a good time in a close game, and I expect this game to be close again.

I’m hoping the inherent Necron toughness will see me through this game. I’m not sure what Reecius is going to run, so I haven’t bothered to try to tailor my list at all. With that in mind, here is the list:

2000 Points

DECURION

160 Overlord with void reaper, Phase Shifter, Resurrection orb

235 10 Warriors with Ghost Ark

235 10 Warriors with Ghost Ark

85 5 Immortals

220 10 Tomb Blades with shield vanes, nebuloscopes

110 5 Tomb Blades with shield vanes, nebuloscopes

110 5 Tomb Blades with shield vanes, nebuloscopes

AUXILIARY

CANOPTEK HARVEST

240 6 Wraiths

50 Tomb Spyder

60 3 Scarabs

CANOPTEK HARVEST

255 6 Wraiths 5 whip coils

50 Tomb Spyder

60 3 Scarabs

65 5 flayed ones

65 5 flayed ones

This is going to be a really important game for our division of the masters league. The winner of this game definitely has the inside track to winning the division.

Reecius Pre-Game Thoughts:

I think this will be my toughest game of the Master’s League! Mike is a very good player playing a tough army. He and I have tangled before, and his Crons beat my Orks in a tough, close game. So, I am looking for some payback! I haven’t tailored my list at all, it’s the same Airborne Imperium army (+150pts) I have been playing and really enjoying. I think I have the mobility, firepower, flexibility and ability to put my assault assets in position to do the most good to take the day. However, it’s going to be a tough fight, Crons are no joke, especially when commanded by a smart general.

    1. Kinda. But since they are Elysians they have option to Deep Strike and I think Reece will be playing them like that.

  1. Where does the Overlord go? Doesn’t seem like he really has any good choices for where to deploy. He can’t start with the Flayed Ones unless they Outflank, he can’t get in a Ghost Ark unless you run it empty, putting him with the Immortals (or solo) seems like asking to get sniped, and if he’s with the Wraiths or Tomb Blades he’s slowing them down a lot. With.. the Scarabs I guess?

      1. I typically run the wraiths and overlord together. I find that the wraiths are able to slingshot the overlord into combat pretty effectively.

          1. Eh, they’ll kill some infantry if they start on the board, but those Vultures are bad, bad news for anything with a Toughness value, and they can even chew apart Ghost Arks once shields are down (or if they get in the rear arc.)

In a lot of ways it’s gonna be a match between whether Reece’s anti-infantry can kill the Wraiths fast enough to keep his own troops alive, because if any ObSec survives it’s gonna be really problematic for the ‘Crons and they have essentially no ways to kill the three Vultures.

          2. Whats ridiculous about decurion wraiths is that if you don’t kill the tomb spider they can still laugh off the vultures.

          3. I’m hoping that I can protect the more important aspects of my army from reecius’s alpha strike, weather his first blow, and then have enough left to kill him.

  2. Man, this is going to be an awesome game for sure! 3 Vultures will should definitely kick some ass Reece, please make proper offerings to the dice gods in order for it to happen!

I’m curious as to why you haven’t equiped your second ASM sergeant with power fist? Especially against Necrons, Str8 and AP2 would be quite handy. I guess one of the Elysian Officer could have lended his to a proper, astartes close-combat fighter…no? 😛

    1. I think it will be a very cool game, too! Both armies pack a wallop. And yes, 3 Vultures is straight brutality!

I run the one sarge with an Axe as that is what he is modeled with.

      1. I’m assuming that the game mechanic that causes them to crash is in place due to ALL pilots uncontrollable urge kill their targets with velocity and mass rather than ammunition.
