Grey Knights

Brother Librariun Maximus hugged the ruins around him. Moments before, his own Lord Kaldo Draigo had whisked them through the gate far into enemy territory, so close that he could smell the exhaust of the Wyvern’s engine cranking along.

“Is it here Brother Maximus!” Draigo bellowed, shield raised towards the two Leman Russ Punishers wheeling upon their position. His mighty Titan sword crackling with energy.

“Lord Draigo,” Maximus said, “These ruins are crawling with the enemy, surely we should wait until either our own forces or those Red Scorpions we commandeered arrive with more aide  before we can search this area!”

Draigo wheeled around to face Maximus. “No! It is here and we must secure it before I am called back to the Warp!”

It was then that Maximus heard the whirling of the Punishers Gatling Cannon and he threw himself down into the ruins. All around him became a sudden dust storm as the Punisher opened up and threw a hellish amount of ballistic energy their way. Concrete exploded and rebar flew into the air, peppering his Terminator armor and filling his ears with a roar of impending doom. Above this though,  Maximus heard Draigo shouting into the comms. “Find the Dust Maximus! Find it!”

“Dust?” Thought Maximus, “There is nothing but dust all around this Emperor forsaken battlefield.”

The Punisher’s cut out leaving only an empty ringing in his ear and the sound of settling rubble and the wind blowing through his ruins. Maximus peered up and over the slab he landed behind only to see…nothing. Draigo was gone! Had he returned to the Warp?

Astra Militarum

Pask waved his hand to cut off the barrage of the two Gatling Cannons that peppered the ruins in front of him. Two White Knights, reported as renegades, had teleported into his lines causing the comms to go crazy with chatter as his forces scrambled to respond.

Pask peered into the ruins to see one White Knight remaining, the one Knight that had only moments before sundered one of his precious Castigator Knights to nothing but an exploded core and bits of slag everywhere.

“Enemy spotted!” Lieutenant McBride declared, “Opening fire!”

“NO!” Shouted Pask. “This heretic is mine!”

Pask took control of his Leman Russ’ Punisher Cannon and brought the fierce weapon down to bear upon this last White Knight, a smirk forming upon his face. He pulled the trigger and the ruins exploded again sending clouds of concrete dust up and into the sky, obscuring not only the Knight, but his own Wyvern and Veteran squad close by, who themselves had opened up with a volley of lasgun fire to no avail.

The cannon cut out suddenly, empty of its rounds. Pask could make out the sounds of his tank crew frantically reloading the  massive gun, steaming and sizzling, sending the wonderful smell of ballistic powder his way.

Finally the dust cleared enough for Pask to hope to see his foe vanquished, but as the dust cleared even more, he saw the heretic knight move, raising his hammer in defiance to Pask’s mighty guns. Pask snapped towards his Leiutenant and pointed towards the ruins. “Finish him!” Pask shouted, his face contorted in anger, “Finish him now!”

Lieutenant McBride snapped to his own Leman Russ’ controls and activated his Punisher Gatling Cannon and the battlefield exploded into dust again.

Grey Knights

“Draigo!” Maximus shouted. “Where are you!”

The psyker clung to life as the battlefield erupted into a tornado of ballistic fire, rock, and heat. His wardings had held of the last volley and he hoped he could last just a bit longer for Draigo to teleport them back to the safety of their own lines. He realized this would not be so as a round punched through is terminator armor and he felt his life force draining from him. “Dust?” Maximus wondered, fading to black. “There is nothing but dust on this planet. Draigo what was your plan?”

Astra Militarum

When his Lieutenant finished his last volley, the reports came in that the White Knight was not moving and had perished. He also received word that the rest of the enemy had been routed off this desolate chunk of ruined earth. Pask was pleased with himself. This dust ball was seemingly worthless, but it was worth enough for these knights to shunt around seeking something. What was it? Pask vowed to the Emperor he would find out.

“Search those ruins.” Pask spoke into the comms, “Find what those Knights were searching for.”

But all they would find is dust.
