It looks like Grant is throwing it so Eldar look week and do not get the ITC nerf stick.
weak as well…
Lol, still nearly tabled the Marines, even with some questionable opening moves and hot dice for the Marines.
no wraith kngiht? curiouser and curoiuser:)
Why must every Eldar list need to have a WK. Between the seer council, the Windrider Host and the Iyanden sup, he’s strapped for points. The WK is good, but in no way is he an auto-include. The new Eldar are still so good, even without him.
BTW, this is a test game. The WK is an obvious choice. Perhaps he just want to test out the other units.
The WK is in there!
I’m confused.
This is 3 detachments, not 2 per the ITC format? Eldar “Decurion”, Iyanden Ally, Space Marine CAD?
Also, how are you taking Iyanden? Baring the fact that its out of print, you can’t have Wraithguard as Troops anymore, because the Spiritseer does not unlock them (and just being Iyanden does not unlock them), so the Iyanden list is illegal as it has 1 HQ and 2 Elites and does not fulfill the Ally Matrix.
Grant had never read the book before, just through some models together. We had very little time or resources to make this happen, so the list may have had a few errors in it.
It shows.
Where is that Iyanden detachment from?
it’s Illegal.
I assume that it is just an Iyanden Combined Arms detachment using the supplement, which feels… more than a bit shady to me.
They threw together the list in 5 min and overlooked that.
We used the models we had on hand, so we tried to shoehorn it all together, we may have made a mistake with the Iyanden part, but we literally had like, 5 minutes to grab models and get going with it between driving people to the airport, doing normal work stuff, etc.
ITC unbound
Apparently, yes! haha
From an outdated codex that doesn’t make wraiths into troops to begin with (iirc) and neither do spirit seers now. So it’s an invalid formation
Illegal list
Yup, it happens. This was Grants first read through of the new book, he may have made a mistake.
BTW, there is a mistake with the seer council. They need to have 5+ warlocks.
Noted.
Cheaten Eldar ;p lol lol, JK
If you ain’t cheatin, you ain’t tryin, son! =P
I am, of course, joking!
I would argue Wraith Knights ARE auto include. They offer so much and fit into the meta so well.. they are THE anti-iKnight units as far as I can see and they don’t suffer anywhere else either.
Yes, they are really good and almost any Eldar list would benefit from including 1. However, the Eldar codex is so deep that you don’t necessarily have to have one to do well.
They kill Knights pretty hard, but so do D-Cannons, Wraithguard, Hemlocks, and Fire Dragons. Eldar are basically drowning in solutions to Knights.
Troof.
While the list was technically illegal it actually had no bearing on the match. One could have built a slightly more refined version of this list with a CAD and the Seer Council formation. this would not only be legal but better. the only formation benefits Grant used were the Council’s psychic stuff. the windrider detachment grant used only provides shred on the bikes but if and only if they use shuriken weapons. (which there were practically none and only once a game) the same list could have been made better because the additional 2 units of the single warlock and the viper would have been excluded.
regardless of list illegality i think this is showing for the new eldar. what we saw during this game was a seer council and a wraithknight roll up one side of the table. the other side saw the marines pretty much own everything they met. granted there were some questionable moves on grants part but my initial suspicions of the “broken” jetbikes was pretty much confirmed. While i grant they are powerful, they are ultimately 27 point marines and marine toughness is sadly laughable. they don’t seem all that broken at least in the context of this game. For a nearly equivalent points war walkers could have been subbed for better results and been more resilient, (not a descriptor one attaches to war walkers often) but the bikes showed their major flaw. namely resilience regarding not only losses but most importantly moral. i think 2 units??? of them fled off the table during the game. this seems to me to be the major weakness of jetbikes. they are fast as hell but are easily thwarted by anyone that points a weapon at them or even forces moral effects on them such as terrify.
Concerning the dreaded D. This battle didn’t prove D-weapons one way or another really. granted the d-scythes removed each target they had in their sights but even with the old rules given those same circumstances they would have done the same…..granted against marines it would be on a 4+ as opposed to the 3+ but each of the templates placed by the D-scythes would have done exactly the same damage with their previous incarnation as with the new one (their total removal with no saves). i think that no change is really necessary however if one is imposed i favor just making d-weapons that are not attached to gargantuan or super heavy’s get a -1 this way, at least for the eldar weapons, you have a sweeping change that literally alters no calculations between the previous incarnation as opposed to the current one. Scythe guard wound marines on a 4+ with no save, (currently and with the un-needed but proposed change) for at least this game worth of information i see the codex as top tier but acceptable. the wraith units light up and destroy what they are pointed at but that was the case with the old one. regardless of everything concerning wraithguard units i don’t think a change is necessary because their durability is the same as before. they are a space marine equivalent, T6 biker marine with shit mobility that requires other units to get them in range and with proper tactics can be mitigated or dealt with.
i might be wrong with my assumptions here,(concerning the bottom half of the field with 2 rhinos worth of marines and a WS with Wraithguard) but everything i saw in this game showed a wraith unit try to engage 2 marine units (roughly = points) get wreaked without the help of the often mentioned totally broken seer council. if the top half of the field that was dominated with a seer council and a wraithknight (which i agree are broken no dispute here) were out of the running the bottom half of the map would have been won handily.
final points, i don’t think that wraithguard are broken. they are powerful, but honestly just as powerful as they were before any changes. every wraith unit that can shoot a target will die….that was true for as long as they have been in 6th+ edition. however with the massive changes to serpents you run into the new true realization of wraithguard. they kill stuff when in range and are pretty survivable but not much more than a similarly priced nurgal biker (+1 toughness vs FNP) however to get them into range you must spend a lot of points to enable this. they have the ability to destroy but as shown in this game basic marines killed most of them until the (seriously still broken) seer council bailed them out of their problems.
Seer Council is bananas, now, holy crap.
And that was not a fair showing of the Jetbikes, lol, Grant failed 3/3 leaderships tests to run off the board, hahaha, that is not normal. Odds are that he only fails 1 of those tests, but, it is a dice game. The Jetbikes are stupidly powerful troops. I think you will see them in units of 5, we simply don’t have the models to do that. They are not just 27pt Marines, that is not a fair comparison at all, they are 27pt models that are crazy fast, can have ObSec, and have 4, str6 shots a piece. No Marine unit comes even remotely close to that firepower or speed, not by a mile, and a unit of marines in a Rhino with lean kit is about 200pts. They fall far short of the Bikes in every category except for morale.
We didn’t get a good feel for the D weapons in this game as there really were no high value targets to shoot them at, the WK missed almost every shot (which will happen), and Grant didn’t play the WG correctly, and suffered the consequences as a result. We will continue to play games with them and show what they can do. I predict D-Scythes will change the meta quite a bit. Wraith Guard are MUCH more powerful than they were, this game was just a poor example of that, as you noted.
I keep seeing arguments that the bikes are not broke, the D weapons fix everything that was broken (ah yes, a disease that cures itself), and all kinds of other arguments that I seem to ignore the real problems.
With the jetbikes, for example, as far as troop killing capacity, and light to medium armor, even FMCs/MCs, I have to stretch my imagination to find something comparable in the bike department. Yes, SM/CSM bikes have more toughness, but against light armor, and especially troops, the common builds just don’t have the same killing capacity, movement variability, and some don’t have OS. Arguing that they aren’t that big of an issue seems like a red herring; it’s more of an argument that Eldar seemingly got several units upgraded in a manner that makes them as good, or better, than their equivalents in other books.
What is Eldar not good at? Flying? Big whoopty-do. Their troops are awesome, their LOW is awesome and under powered, they have access to weapons (D-weapons) in most FOC slots that are good against everything except hordes (which can be handled by the bikes, etc), all without mitigating rules. No get’s hot or anything like that. keep trying to reason it through, but there is no other codex out there that has this many options in each FOC slot, nor is there any book that has comparable units that all have the same killing or movement ability, nor the above average survivability.
under costed, not under powered
replying to you because FIRST!!! but to most comments my reply will be the same.
I am not defending the status of jetbikes (specifacilly the upgraded eldar ones) but merely stating that if you lay equal points of war walkers (WW) against them in this specific game they would be better. (the WW that is) i honestly believe something needs to be done because you have a unit that is about .6% worse at damage than a heavy support. (based on cost of scatterlaser bikes to = points WW) but i think this game showed it has flaws and more than that shows the bike have sever weaknesses.
who remembers that tournament in the last 2 years that was won from 9 War walkers and assorted other eldar BS.
no one…..Bueler….Bueler…..it didnt happen…..k
now on to the point, the bikers are probably under priced but remember the last codex. 130 points would lead to a waveserpent that had 3 S6 Psudo rending shots 4 TL S6 and 1D6+1 S7 ignore cover shots.
for that same price (130/27) you get 4.8 skatterbikes. so the bikes with no overhead of units like dire avengers get roughly 20 S6 shots. that same waveserpent got 7S6 and ~4 s7 (given average rolls). you sacrifice 9 potential wounds for the ability to do more damage but be hurt….we all know 6th Waveserpent duribility i dont need to hear debated on it. however here’s the point this shift makes eldar roughly the same damage but rather than an AV12, with saves out the ass, we have (while fast granted) marine toughness models with nothing else.
while the WS isnt a paragon of balance its clear that GW has no intention of doing it for us. what would you rather, an un-killable tank that had average 11 shots a turn or the higher damage but infinitely more killable but not quite 5 bikes for roughly the same price.
i say this comparison simply because i agree yes they slightly OP but unlike invis Cent star and old waveserpents they can be killed. droppod marines or ironically pyrovores and you can kill them. they are a glass hammer, granted a fast glass hammer but still.
Awe, you know Ferris Bueller quotes. How cute!
Why the comparison to war walkers? War walkers aren’t troops, and I know of no troop choices that are like war walkers. The same problem remains: There is really nothing that compares to the jetbikes when it comes to troops. That would be fine if it was the only such example of OPness, but it’s not. We have troops doing what heavy/elite support can do in other books, heavy support doing what heavy support can do in other books, as well as D weapons and a bunch of other filth all over the place, and a ridiculously underpriced WK. It reminds me of playing star craft I against my friend who used hacks, it’s not even fun.
I don’t have the time or money to completely revamp my army to compete with this monstrosity, nor do I want to join the Eldar fanboys. It’s depressing to see GW continually ignore certain aspects of the, such as the comp scene and balance. This book is an abomination. I am having a lot of trouble being positive about this.
Rethought of all my arguments but playing my other army tyranids. Ha they are broken as shit. Without spamming the flyrents I honestly can’t cocieve of a counter excepting mawlocks a hierodule and malanthrole 2+ coversaves and other assorted strategies that made me stop playing Nids because they didn’t feel like tyranids.
Change the weapons to 1/3 or 1/2 and limit the d weapons to a further -1 on the table. Both of these changes make them functionally similarly to their last codex and is a fix that is a sweeping change.
I want to get a few games played no holds barred before judgement (both FLG and myself) but looking at this game and a relitavly tame eldar list almost tabled a fairly durable marine list. I can’t wait for a couple more days to get to my scheduled games
Yeah, gotta say, this was limited more by time and available models than the eldar codex.
Scyrell- what if something tougher than marines was targetted by the d-scythes? Tyranid MCs, knights, wraithlords. They’d all be taking a hell of a lot more damage than they would with the old rules. D-scythes couldn’t scratch a wraithlord before, or a tank or knight.
A unit of two of laserbikea isn’t scary, you can force them to jibk. But try suppressing six units!
It’s completely antithecal to game design, to have points efficient units capable of dealing with most threats.
Reece – I recommend you guys run a proxy list using SM bikes to represent lasbikers, and try and field 30.
Ya, with further thought I can’t conceive a counter outside of flyrent spam or psychic powers like psychic shriek. Truly OP and were I not playing my beloved eldar I can’t find a workable solution to this codex.
The d-scythes obliterating everything while fluffy and cool make me cringe when I try to fumble for a counter outside of the eldar codex. They could take out a knight or landraider or wraith lord it was just statistically rare. Requiring a lucky 6 to wound/pen with instant death and ap 2 could down a wraithkight just really unlikely. Now it’s almost guaranteed
/cry I love my eldar because it’s the only army I own where I look at every entry in the codex and say yes I will take 2….. What I am out of points already but I haven’t gotten too… To me it’s a perfect codex strong options abundant strategies and variable list building. It’s just when looking at other books that I cringe at the external balance
comments regarding the stream:
1) please institute a dice cam. You need 2. One at each end of the table for ease of play, but more importantly for ease of sight.
2) place cameras to capture these rolls so we can easily see what’s going on during the batrep.
2b) use overhead cameras focused on the dice cams to capture results and keep us in the action
2c) use some form of dice tray that’s a 1ft by 1ft platform that has enclosed sides to roll dice, this may be a product with a FAT mat in mind or a otherwise working with your business, given you sell the best table products
3) with this idea use picture in picture to shift from the tabletop to dice cam and back. If you have a fixed cam on a pre arrianged area for dice you can use not only these sugestions but if necessarily high contrast dice to keep us (the viewers) in the loop. if you use this you have a format that the “dice cams” can be overlaid to the main picture or vice versa. Best of all worlds we(the audience) see what’s going on while getting the sense of the rolls in a controed area.
Shut up. Be polite, you don’t need to order them about, you don’t pay their wages
Sorry if it came across as ordering them about. I was merely stating a sugestion to improve their stream quality. I have suggested this idea before and thought of further improvements to help them. As always with suggestions they are free to choose to use them or not.
It’s all good, thank you for the suggestions. We like those, but, there are a number of limitations that prohibit some of them. We can’t put a camera on the other end of the table as then it would always be in the shot from the other cameras. We are getting an overhead camera, too, but they are mighty expensive! Haha, one step at a time.
The picture in picture for dice is something we have considered, but, the dice may be too small to read if we do that.
My two sense, on other batreps and stuff I’ve watched, I disliked both picture in picture, and the overhead view..
… i dont know maybe i’m the only one – i felt the overhead few made it more difficult to see what was going on on the table..
… I also dont feel like i need to see all of the dice rolls either though personally.
the iyanden dex..doesn’t have to be outdated. IT works for codex:eldar which is at the top of the codex:eldar Craftworlds book. it has some alternate relics, a different primaris for spirit seers and allows 4 spirit seers per HQ slot. IT doesn’t make wraith guard units troops so… it should be fine??
It’s out of print, thus no longer playable.
Are you sure? Nothing in Craftworlds invalidates the Iyanden book and nothing from GW (yet) has invalidated the book. Not printing more copies doesn’t mean that the rules in the Iyanden book do not mesh or are not valide when applied to Craftworlds.
So does it work for Codex: Eldar Harlequins then?
Friendly games sure but right now it is in limbo officially because there is no such thing as just Codex: Eldar.
I think trying to say Codex: Eldar and Codex: Craftworld Eldar are not the same thing is pretty silly. Like saying IG and Astra Militarum aren’t the same.
sure it could work…..except harlies don’t use spirit seers, and that’s pretty much the entire iyanden supplement
I like the concept of TWITCH, but I can’t keep the video running. It buffers and sputters for several minutes and then freezes. I have tried on multiple devices and I have pretty solid Internet running about 20GB. Any tips on making it work?
It is probably your connection. We will be a Twitch Partner Channel soon, and when that happens, you will be able to control your stream to make it easier to view on your device.
Live streams have a higher bandwidth priority on Twitch if you are lagging then its 99% your connection, but sometimes the VODs (past broadcasts) will have playback issues depending on region. It’s been like this for years. Best bet is to simply try later. Having a really good connection will usually not help then.
I haven’t been able to find any replays or videos from you guys on twitch. I’m unfamiliar with twitch. Is that how it works? If you don’t catch it live you can’t watch it at all? It would still be nice to watch the LVO finals vids.
Replays are here:
http://www.twitch.tv/frontlinegaming_tv/profile/past_broadcasts
Not sure about the LVO final vids.
Apparently it just doesn’t work at all for my iPad 🙁 Surprising.
I never make the live feed. I am always trying to watch the recording. Twitch is the only video source on the web I have had this trouble with, and we stream video at our house all the time. If a 20GB service is inadequate what does this service need? I am not talking about little hiccups, the video literally stops for minutes at a time. I have tried letting it buffer for an hour and it really doesn’t help. I have noticed that the ad always seems to play just fine when I start the feed.
I would really love to see these on YouTube where I can actually watch them.
Haven’t watched the feed, but that SM army is a jobber if I’ve ever seen one.
