List Review
So this is my mean list (the Dickdar). I went with the Pulse lasers on the Hornets for the str8, ap2, heavy 2, 48″ brokenness. And we have lots of scout going on as well. Have a total of 24 Pulse Laser shots and 6 Bright Lances.
HQ-
Spirit Seer (with the Wraithblades)
Troops-
5 Windriders
5 Wraithblades with Ghostswords in a Wave Serpent with Holo-fields and TL Scatter Laser and TL Shuriken Catapults.
Fast Attack-
3 Hornets with 2 Pulse Lasers each
3 Hornets with 2 Pulse Lasers each
10 Warp Spiders
Heavy Support-
3 War Walkers with Scatter Laser, Bright Lance each
3 War Walkers with Scatter Laser Bright Lance each
Wraithknight with Suncannon, Scattershield and a Scatter Laser.
You’re the best, can’t wait for a FATMAT in the UK. That is all.
Thanks! And we’ll be happy to get them there =)
Just a few corrections on your GK “rumors” (I know you’ve seen the pictures!)
-The rules for the aegis have been the same since the 7th ed FAQ. The only thing we really lost was reinforced aegis (never really used it anyways).
-GK vehicles lost fortitude (ignores shaken/stunned) in the 7th ed FAQ. Instead, they got sanctuary (+1 to invul, if no invul gain a 6++).
-While psycannons were sort of salvo before, there are few significant differences. The previous psycannon let me always snap fire at heavy 4 (great against flyers), now if I move at all I’m stuck at the two shot mode (snap fire or no). Additionally, psycannons are half range now if you moved, which puts strikes in the murderzone (<12") if they want to remain mobile and use their psycannons.
-Dreadknights still can't take two of the same heavy weapon. Given the other options, I'm not too broken up over this.
-Purifiers still have cleansing flame, and they also gained ML2
-You only need 1 HQ and 1 troop to take Draigo if you take the new Nemesis Strike Force.
I'm one of those GK players who's upset with the changes. We lost a lot of stuff this time around, and didn't really gain anything to replace it. I was already struggling against top-tier armies before, and these changes are going to make it that much harder. All of this is of course just an initial impression and is going to require some real playtesting to see how our strengths and weakness changed.
Give a little time, I think you will appreciate 33 point terminators lol, plus terminators can move and fire 4 shots and then assault with the psycannons, I think grey are going to be really popular again, I just read the sanctic powers and they are all good!
33pt Terminators isn’t as nice as you might think. They were significantly overpriced at 40ppm (same thing with vanilla Terminators), but now you’re stuck with AP3 weapons and you lost psybolt ammo and the brotherhood banner. Buy cc weapon upgrades, most importantly hammers, and you’re suddenly only saving 10-20pts on the unit over the old prices. Which is nice, but it is far from amazing, especially considering how overpriced they already were.
Space Wolves and CSM already have cheaper Terminators, and they are rarely played.
Oh, and psycannons were already 4 shots on Terminators and you could assault afterwards. Literally exactly the same. The difference is, all those power armor GKs are now basically worthless, since the main reason to take them was to cram in a bunch of psycannons and str 5 storm bolters. No more psybolt ammo, and salvo psycannons, and shooty PAGK are terrible. Might still take a unit of Purifiers on occasion, because they’re still decent in assault and you get Cleansing Flame which is pretty awesome, but otherwise PAGK are getting completely shelved. So now not only are GKs only pure GK (not that I personally mind that, but they needed to include some things to cover the loss of, y’know, like anti-tank and stuff), but they’re effectively pure Terminator/Paladin now. And look how well that’s worked out for, like, Deathwing.
I know that you could already charge with terminators, I was pointing it out it the poster above me
Yes space wolves and chaos also have 33 point terminators, but they don’t get force weapons, psychic powers or objective secured in a cad
Hammerhand is the only good psychic power, and to take advantage of it you want a few hammers, at which point you’re not actually any cheaper than the unit used to be. So, again, from someone who’s played Grey Knights for a very long time, it’s cool that we’re saving maybe 20pts off a unit of 5, but that doesn’t suddenly make GKT the most amazing troops choice ever. They’re decent, but they’ll still get shot off the table often as not.
You don’t think S7 halberds are worth it?
Deathwing is actually the other army I play a lot. Turns out, I can actually make my 2000pt DW army with about 1700 pts of GKs. There are a few trade offs, like the GKTs only have 2 hammers instead of powerfists/chainfists/hammers, GKTs don’t split fire or twin-link after deep striking, GK land raiders can’t be made venerable, and GKTs aren’t fearless. Still, that’s a whopper of a point savings there.
While I’m not sure that pure terminator GKs are going to be the most competitive, I think a mixture of power armored and TDA clad GKs is going to be the way to go. Yes, the change to psycannons definitely nerfed PAGKs, but I think it’s far too early to claim things like, “PAGKs are terrible.” How much playtesting has really been done with them yet?
Oh I’m sure I’ll get over the changes. I think the thing I’m most looking forward to is beating people and then not hearing that it’s because I play a cheesy army rather than accept that I might be a better player than them.
I was wondering when the furry miniatures would start existing
