List Review
Tau:
Support Commander (MSS, CnC, Iridum, VRT)
Shadowsun
Riptide, Ion, Fusion, EWO
Riptide, HBC, SMS, EWO, VT
8x Firewarriors
15x Kroot, 2 hounds
Marines (Iron Hands):
Chapter Master (EW Shield, Thunderhammer, Artificer Armor, Bike)
Siege Dread in a pod
8x Bikes with 2x Plasmaguns, Attack Bike with Heavy Bolter
3x Centurions with Grav Amps
Total: 1750
——-
GAME PLAN:
Shadowsun, Support Commander, and the Centurions all infiltrate, hopefully getting within range instantly to do damage with the Grav that ignores armor and cover, and rerolls misses and wounds. And has +3 to cover. And includes 2 fusion shots with all the same from Shadowsun. The chapter master probably starts with the bikes, but can join the centurion squad when he needs to get off an orbital bombardment to give that rerolling and ignore covering on a str10 ap1 pie plate with ordinance. The bikes can also combat squad if needs be into a bolter heavy group with the HB attack bike and a plasma group. The riptides do what riptides do best, one with HBC for anti-horde, and doubles up as light AA and the other helping with deep strike protection and more low AP fire. The kroot can either infiltrate to be bubble wrap for the centurions against assault heavy armies, or just outflank to grab line breaker late game. The fire warriors sit at home and kill what they can, survive maybe. The siege dread drops and fries something backfield hopefully.
I swear.. if i see any of you at the LVO i’m just going to start yelling ‘.. its a Tuna can joke!”
..seriously funny podcast guys, with good informative stuff in between..
thumbs up for entertainment and stuff!
Hahaha, we definitely strayed into inappropriate territory but it was funny, we couldn’t stop laughing while we were recording.
Glad you liked it we had a lot of fun this podcast.
I didn’t know the Iron Hands Chapter Tactics conferred infiltrate. This looks like another one of those Iliac night spear Infiltrate UR fiascos. I thought the infiltrate debate looked settled until an FAQ is released to change the RAW to RAI. I think your list would be really great if you could joint Shadowsun to the centurions and infiltrate them.
Anyone else notice that if you wanted to dump all of your points into 2 ravenguard chapter masters, LR Crusaders, and Centurions, it appears they can roll in from outflank by virtue of the rule being conferred from the Chapter Master onto the unit and then the dedicated transport LR.
If you read the Raven Guard Chapter Tactics closely, it says “Note that *units that include* models with the Bulky or Very Bulky special rules do not benefit from either rule”
So even though the Chapter Master has the rule, if he is with a unit of Centurions, then that is a “unit that includes models with the Very Bulky rule,” so they would not get to benefit from the Scout, even conferred by the chapter master.
The thing is the chapter tactic rule is not being conferred, but the scout rule from the chapter master is beng conferred onto the squad by virtue of it being on the chapter master. GW right poor and vague rules OMG!!! hehehe something would warrant an FAQ entry but will never get one. No worries, the uber power builds from the superheavies will make all of this moot.
Actually the wording is not gain this rule, I believe it says,
“Strike from the Shadows – Models with the Chapter Tactics rule gain the Scout special rule (including dedicated transports!), which also gives you Outflank. Also, on the first game turn, models gain the Stealth special rule. In either case, Bulky or Very Bulky units don’t gain this ability.”
I quoted the part above that makes it impossible. Yes, the Chapter Master (and thus the unit) has Scout, however they can’t benefit from it, because they are a unit that contains models with Very Bulky. It doesn’t matter that he gives it to them, because once he joins them they are a single unit, and that unit doesn’t benefit from the rule.
Or if he has a jump pack or bike…weak.
It’s not that unclear. The CM has Scout, but Bulky models can’t benefit from his Scout. He basically has Scout, except for when he’s with Bulky models.
On the flip side, you could take Centurions in a LR as White Scars with Khan as your Warlord, since his special rule applies to any unit that has a dedicated transport (and Bikes of course).
Iron Hands don’t confer Infiltrate, what made you say that?
This is back to that whole thing where an IC with infiltrate can not confer it on a squad unless the squad also has infiltrate. The idea being if the marines don’t have a chapter tactic with infiltrate, then adding shadowsun to the devs and the tank commander won’t let the whole blob infiltrate. This was the same issue with the one army that had Iliac night spear in it and then then the uber wraith flamer guys infiltrating to anywhere on the table and BBQing something round 1.
Ah, the way you originally wrote it it made me think you thought IHs could infiltrate. My mistake.
But yes, we read the rule as if an IC has infiltrate, he/she confers it onto the unit. That is the way it is played at Adepticon/FoB/LVO/BAO/WargamesCon, etc.
Illic though, was ruled to not infiltrate a unit as he has a specific rule that is named differently and only applies to him.
Well it looks like the Guardian Cup is fully registered! There is a waiting list being formed as we speak so you never know. Thanks for the plug guys.
Happy to help!
Thats awesome bud. Sorry that I had to back out at the last minute. Hope you guys do well and have a great time.
As someone who has owned multiple chihuahuas I can tell you this. They are from hell itself and if you are stuck in a pit with a rottweiler and a chihuahua, take your chances with the rottweiler
