Cool game, very back and forth yet again despite the fact that you each had “unkillable” D-stars. I honestly have to admit that those desperate turns and the shift in who has the advantage really does make the games more dynamic and interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it! It really down come down to lucky breaks and, funny enough, when you play with these crazy Deathstars, the games are REALLY fast as they usually clash turn 2 or 3 and one obliterates the other and then runs through the rest of the other guy’s army.
With 7 combi plas they can be OK, but yeah, we are having trouble thinking of a list that is good against the Air Force armies AND can take on a Deathstar. It is puzzling, but the IG Blob Deathstar is probably the best bet with Wolf Priest Support.
In contrast though, the Air Force can only win through dropping troops on objectives last turn, which is viable.
Ig blob death star can lose pretty heftilly to 5 death company and one presienced Death company dread with talons. the 5 Dc charge first soaking the overwatch and then the Dread comes in and does, about 30 wounds? possibly ending combat early as nothing will be within 3 inches:P.
actually come to think a DCD, could charge the nob bikers and possibly kill them all as well maybe
Yeah, a DC dread with Talons can wreck a lot of this stuff. He’ll get stopped cold by the Dark Footsar, though.
Nob Bikers I think would be OK though, as they have both an Invul save and a FnP save which should stop him from doing too much. Then, Strength 10 klaw attacks will wreck him.
I dunno. While these deathstar’s are powerful, it seems like you’re rewarded more for bringing a balanced list. Great battle report though. 🙂 Gotta step outside and tell those busses to shut up! 😛
The thing with these deathstars is that so far, we have found they will walk through a normal army on their own. Maybe with time and creative strategies we’ll prove that wrong, but so far the game comes down to whose deathstar wins, wins the game.
It seems that between feeding them, and the off chance that they could fail a charge, a normal army could still get to critical objectives and over power the minimal forces guarding them.
Yeah, dice do play a bigger part in this game than it had previously. You now can fail that charge from right on top of a unit to lose the game. The thing with the deathstars though, is that they are typically so hard to kill that they can survive a rough toss of the dice like that and still recover.
We will try out some anti-deathstar tactics and see how well they hold up.
Can you try something for me? Deep strike 10 sternguard with combi plasma on the flank of a deathstar and see if you can still deal a deathblow like you could in 5th. I remember demolishing powerful units that way before. I’m curious if that’s still a reasonably priced option to handle some of this nonsense; especially with the 6″ disembark. 🙂
20 shots x .6667 to hit = 13.34 hits x .825 to wound = 11.139 wounds x .667 through the invul saves = 7.429 x .667 through the FnP saves = 4.95 wounds. That is essentially 5, which means you don’t even dent the Nob Bikers. Best case scenario you kill 2, probably none.
Nope, I would say that is not a good solution. It’s even worse against Harlies or Termiecide with Fateweaver.
Haven’t tried, but I would assume the IG PSB and 2 x manticore combo would still be pretty good at taking out the Nob bikers and making them run off the board. Add in a Leman Russ Squadron with demolisher cannons just in case the scatter is bad or the PSB gets blocked. I know that is a lot of points, but the leman russes at least don’t have to worry about any ork shooting.
I take a Farseer just to stop PBS. And Manticores are great against Nob Bikers, but they will usually only get a turn or two of shooting before the Nobs destroy everything they touch in Combat. Not uber, by any means, but really damn good. Your list ideas could beat them though for sure, if well played.
Hey guys, Whereabouts does it say that the Terminators are characters? Just interested cause I have Terminators and I do like look out sir shenanigans. Thanks!

Thanks boys!

Flyers don’t care about assault deathstars. The Necron Airforce will confound the chaos forces. There’s the paper to that hammer unit.

Well, math says:
20 shots x .6667 to hit = 13.34 hits x .825 to wound = 11.139 wounds x .667 through the invul saves = 7.429 x .667 through the FnP saves = 4.95 wounds. That is essentially 5, which means you don’t even dent the Nob Bikers. Best case scenario you kill 2, probably none.

Rats. 🙁

Chaos Champions are characters, so if you give them the Champion upgrade they become characters! Pretty crazy, and it really helps buff up the squad.
Ah I didn’t notice that. That’s pretty sweet, think I’m gonna have to test this out 🙂
