Masterclass: Free your Mind, and your Brush will follow (Day 2) $35 – with Seth Amsden
- There is a common belief that we must constantly create new techniques and methods to be used in model painting, which often leads the artist struggling to come up with “new” ideas on how to tackle projects. I have also come to believe that it is the pursuit of technical perfection, or the desire to show case the “perfect” techniques often becomes a major stumbling block to the creation of artisitc pieces. To that end I’ve spent the last few years breaking free from the proverbial “bubble of purity” in an effort to bring artist expression into my work. In this 4 hr Master Class students will explore the traditional fine art roots of the techniques that are currently employed in the modeling world, applying traditional fine art methodology to modeling, advanced color interactions, and “non-traditional” approaches to painting.
- We will spend a portion of the class discussing Fine Art, its methodologies and presentation, and its application in the world of modeling. Students will be given exercises to explore advanced color interactions, and will be shown how to apply these theories to the models in order to create vibrant color effects. I will then demonstrate how I apply traditional Fine Art and Model painting techniques in a very radical, and non traditional way and the reasons why I paint in this manner. This will include things like advanced pre-shading, using an airbrush to apply glazes, and “dunking” ( a watercolor technique I’ve adapted for models). In between each discussion, student will be given the opportunity to try their hands at these techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own paints and brushes, and if you participated in the previous days session (Building Fantastic Landscapes) the piece that you built during that session. Materials will be provided as well as a full list of what was used in the class, and additional color exploration exercises to work on at your leisure.
