40k Game Changers Ep7: Rick Priestley

Is it true that the bosses let Rick create Warhammer 40,000 just to shut him up? Where did the inspiration come from for the different races and chapters?

Rick created Warhammer 40,000 ‘Rogue Trader’ in the mid 80’s as a side project. Essentially the boss at Games Workshop (Brian Ansell) was throwing poor Rick a bone just so Mister Priestley would stop going on and on about this game he wanted to write.

Thus was born the monster that has become 40k. That’s just one of many amazing stories Rick shares in this episode of Game Changers. We also hear about the tiny space they started in, how the game got so big, what it was that inspired some of the characters, and where it all started to go wrong.

Rick has a million great stories! Have a listen.
