GW is on point lately with these rules updates. I love it!
Coinciding with the General’s Handbook 2017 which is shaking up the game quite a bit or its own accord, these new FAQs answer some of the biggest questions about things that were not in that book that some of the community were expecting such as why could some units still stack bonuses that created extremely powerful combinations? Well, that has been answered! Many of these changes were handled on a per unit basis such as with the Aethkhemist. The compendium/legacy armies have also been extensively updated.
Read the FAQs, here.
There’s a LOT of information to absorb, here. What do you all think are the biggest changes?
Hmmm so all the legacy models have to use the generic faction keyword. Any that had more specific keywords lost them. Feel bad for the ones that directly tied to an updated faction like beastmen or slaves to darkness.
Yeah, there are some big changes in there.
Have you seen the anvil of Doom yet?
Oh boy they broke that over their knee.
So on top of losing the dispossessed keyword it also lost the ability to buff units other than itself. It is a 1″ move buff character with little to no melee. That is just sad.
How hard would it have been to let them stay in the faction? Doubt it would have destroyed the game .
It’s the same for the Empire stuff, it is all just “human” keyword, now. However, what if that means in the future we will have a”Human” as a faction keyword, or “Duardin”, etc? That would be awesome as the factions would be so much bigger and you’d have so much more creative freedom in list building.
For now though, yeah. Many of the legacy units got hit pretty hard.
Mostly just talking about how the anvil can only buff itself period. Not just keywords are an issue there. They just broke him for little reason I can see.
Would be nice if they did broader keyword armies like that. Do you have some insight? I personally don’t see them doing that.
It’s worse than you think. Because the compendium scroll lost their keywords, they can’t even be taken as allies with the regular allegiances. If you want to run compendium stuff in your army, the grand alliance allegiances are really your only option.
‘Cept stormcasts, stormcasts can take ‘ery body.
A lot of stuff the That makes be very happy, looking at you wound halving monsters/no longer stackable buffs/most Tzeentch stuff 😀
Yeah, agreed. Haven’t had a chance to go over all of it yet, but largely happy with it.
Multiple swift kicks to the khardron dangly bits.
Best ability took multiple nerfs (khemist buff) and a price hike.
Best and only reliable weapon (drill cannon) took a hard nerf (is now d3 damage).
Thunderers got nerfed into the ground, because of …. packaging?
I must really suck at this game because I thought sky dorfs were fairly mediocre against good competition. Had a couple good gimmicks but nothing game breaking.
Now every single ranged weapon is either d1 or d3/d6? Hitting on 4’s with 1 shot almost across the board.
Talk about a dicey army. Man =/
Hmm. Interesting assessment. I haven’t had the chance to use that army of eternity so my opinion is of limited value.
Fairly certain the damage 3 was a typo for the balloon infantry since the same weapon on a boat was d3 damage. You probably saw that too if you play them.
All abilities stopped stacking on themselves and that is a good thing.
Thunderers is a tough one to swallow especially for people who bought bits and made them up with the same gun.
The Khemist not stacking was overdue, but when combined with the change to Thunderers, it does make the Khemist pretty bad.
I know that compendium armies were gonna be phased out and all. I was kind of bummed though when bretonnian units took straight up nerfs to the wars roll and maintained their prices. Had a quick glance and that didn’t seem to be a common theme. Units go some changes sure but nothing bad.
Pegasus knights and king louen aswell as our archers took a hit. In that order, we lost pile in twice mechanic, battlefield wide immune to battleshock, and plus one to hit from having a paladin nearby.
Getting ride of the army wide battleshock thing I get but staying the same points I don’t!
As for the other FAQs for khorne and tzeentch, love it. Got ride of alot of gimmicks that were not fun like LoC on balewind vortex and using destiny dice or mortal wound damage rolls.
I’m happy with most of the changes. Nice to see them updating things in a major way when it needs to happen. AoS is gonna go through some shifts but that’s good!
