Have you considered that the Tau are too weak yet and need some buffs? It’s a pretty common story for Tau players to be getting clobbered left right and centre. Even with 8th adapted lists we’re not doing much on the tabletop.
T’au are really good that was just a bad match-up and I didn’t have the right tools (no fusion).
I’ve seen other bat reps where Tau smashed space marines.
I think it’s not as bad as some tau players are saying.
I know a lot of people in my local are hanging up their Tau after trying out just about everything shy of commander spam in our competitive meta. The Caledonian deathwatch tournament seen Tau lists getting smashed badly. Tau player count is down from previous years as well showing a general disdain for it as a weak dex that got no tricks anymore.
Shooting that is in some cases worse than other armies, melee that is worse, no psychic, weaker or on par for toughness units, and high costs. I don’t think the stats are too bad except on things like the Skyray what were they thinking, I think the price is what is killing them like nids in 7th. It takes two broadsides to be as efficient in damage as a single las predator. Weak low tier IG units like armoured sentinels compare favourably with broadsides. When one of our better units is compared to a low tier IG unit there are some problems.
We used to use ML’s to make sure our low volume of shots hit when it mattered but we can’t do that now and our accuracy is terrible. If we could reliably get a +1BS it wouldn’t be too bad but right now needing 5 hits is insane and needs to stack even more ML units into armies adding on huge taxes that will be gone in the first round someone shoots at them. So we get one decent shot at a +1BS for hundreds of points.
Drones are easily shot first giving the unit they meant to protect no ablative wounds.
A lot of angry Tau players here that they gutted the dex so bad. Not just of options, but of viability. It doesn’t feel balanced in any way with what other indexes can do.
Well considering it isn’t a dex it’s just a set of temporary rules I can’t say much. The only thing I noticed is the lack of long range anti tank. There just isn’t a good way to get lots of railgun type things compared to many lascannons. that leaves fusion guns which are good but also sadly 1 inch 2 short to melta on drop XD.
Overall 8th is way better then 7th thanks to these guys playtesting.
Sadly we still have many utterly unusable, overpriced crap units nobody in their right mind will ever take.
What is also sad is the lack of debate over this meaning lack of improvement hopes.
What units are unusable and overpriced crap? I am genuinely curious as there is too much hyperbole out there and for the most part, a vast majority of units are more playable than they’ve ever been. The disparity between good and bad is not nearly what it was so I am curious as to what you think is so bad?
