Thanks for the signals, always enjoy them.
Glad to hear the cone of silence is being lifted tomorrow! Exciting stuff.
It’s a bummer for me cause I’ll be on a 14 hour flight to China during that cast, but I’ll look forward to hearing it later.
Peace.
Eh, that is a long flight, good luck with it!
Thanks Reece, I’ll fly safe.
To put in a question for tomorrow if I may; your thoughts on Flash Gitz? They are my personal favorite unit in the game, would be stocked to hear them be good.
And how do guard fare vs all these assault heavy armies?
I can infer some stuff from leaks but would love to hear the playtester PoV.
I will be happy to answer those questions tomorrow if you want to send them in (although you’ll be on a plane, IIRC). I will try to remember to answer them.
I know you can’t say specifics yet and maybe you guys can answer tomorrow, but I saw how Sternguard works.
Did you guys get a chance to play test them? They seem kind of useless in the grand scheme of things, they don’t have special ammo, just a special Bolter that only has one mode. But if they take combi weapons they lose the special Bolter. So what’s the point of taking them over company veterans who have a special ability and can take combi weapons themselves?
I actually bought 6 boxes of them a little while ago in hopes of using the Sternhammer, and since 8th is dropping I was optimistic they’d still be useful even without formations.
But it’s kind of sad to see they got nerfed in a way that doesn’t make sense to me, and don’t seem to serve a real purpose points wise or rules wise.
I suppose I’ll try them with Heavy flamers and the special bolters to keep cost down? That’s the only thing that really makes them unique now, but that seems a bit expensive for short range anti infantry.
For now, they may not be exactly what you wanted them to be although they certainly aren’t bad. The special ammo is actually quite good.
Thanks for the response, I’ll certainly give them a chance because I do love the models.
You should. I do not think you will be disappointed. They’re just different, now.
Ah man, I wish I could have gone to Warhammer Fest, it would have been cool to meet you guys in person!
Oh well, no doubt you’ll be back some time in the future
So excited to play new 40k, everything looks so much fluffier and more fun, especially my beloved Tyranids and Harlequins. The speed and mass of attacks of harlequins is hilarious!
Most of the complaints about units ‘sucking’ are because people are looking at them in the context of 7th edition rules. Understandable when we’ve been playing pretty much the same basic ruleset tweaked over time since 3rd edition, but they need to get into the 8th mindset. The different ways in which close combat, movement, transports, stratagems etc. effect the game change everything. Units that don’t seem good in the context of 7th actually have a unique and clever purpose in 8th. Dark eldar are a prime example of this.
Though I must admit, it’s a shame that dark eldar characters aren’t the close combat monsters they’re meant to be. They seem worth the points, but I would happily pay more points for them to be as deadly as their lore says. Succubi are meant to be able to beat space marine Captains!
It’s a relatively small complaint overall though, this looks like the best 40k ruleset. Straight up, the best ever.
Yeah, it was a bummer to miss it.
You are correct, folks are looking at things compared to now and missing the point. This is an entirely new game, comparing to the past is a fruitless endeavor.
DE characters are actually quite good in melee. Drahzar is a monster for example. You will see in time.
And yes, 8th is no bullshit, the best version of 40k I have ever played. I love it. There are a few weak points we will see right out the gates but I am confident in time those will get rectified.
Oh I don’t doubt they’re worth their points and decent against most units, I just mean I would pay more points for them to reflect their fluff better when it comes to out-fighting other characters. I can’t see a Succubus beating a Captain with the rules we’ve seen for example, not when he can happily mash her with a thunder hammer in a couple of turns and she can only inflict a couple of wounds at best in the same space of time.
I do wonder if Drazhar is meant to have the ‘precision strike’ thing that Incubi have, it seems weird that they have it and their master doesn’t. That would certainly make him a lot scarier for enemy characters.
I’m excited for the game anyway though, the Dark Eldar are clearly far better than they were before. It’s only the first release and it’s way better rules than we’ve had before. It would be totally unreasonable to expect them to get everything right in the vast quantity of units in this mad game!
One thing I think might change is how ‘blast’ weapons work now. I get the theory behind it, but rolling number of shots and then having to roll to hit seems like it will reduce the damage outcome too much. I think (and this is just theory because I haven’t played it and you guys have) it would be better if they just fired a set number of shots (3 for ‘small blast’, 6 for ‘large blast’ and so on) and then rolled to hit. That would mean a battle cannon would get an average of three hits which seems about right, whereas with the current rules it’s probably only getting one or two.
Again though, it’s early days, plenty of time for playing around with the rules before anything is updated. I’m excited for the future.
Yeah, the blast thing is a big change but hey, you get used to it. I wouldn’t compare it to what it used to be as that just doesn’t work anymore. It is a totally new mechanic.
And as for DE characters vs. any other faction character? Eh, kind of a moot comparison for me as we find characters rarely actually fight one another. It just doesn’t come up that much unless both players want it to due to model positioning.
Fair enough, I just love the fluff of Succubi, Drazhar and the like hunting down enemy heroes to prove their strength. Like I say the army overall looks great so I’m not worried.
I get the changes, I much prefer dice to blast templates, it just seems to me that such weapons don’t hit much. A Leman Russ battle cannon for example will probably only get one or two hits. If it always fired six shots it would average three hits, which seems more accurate to fluff and more useful in-game.
Again though, I haven’t really played it yet so maybe them not getting many hits is intended and works out fine. I just can’t wait to play, the game looks so different yet so… right.
Idk about y’all, but after watching a review of the Dark Angels section of the Astartes Index, Azrael, Belial, Sammy, and Ezekiel are looking sooooooo amazing now! It’s actually worth it to paint those metal and finecast models that I’ve had forever.
Yes, Dark Angels are VERY good!
lol. Did the GW bit really say Ultramar system was 500 Worlds instead of The Star Kingdom of Ultramar being 500 worlds and 100s of systems?!
