Reecius wrote a Tyranid faction preview article over at the Warhammer-community site! Read it, here.
Sounds pretty awesome if I do say so, myself…and I do so say, myself, lol.
What do you all think?

F*** YES. Swarm Lord looks like a bawss now.
He is a chieftain!
Nids sound scary, as they should be.
Synapse looking good from the little mentioned. Gotta kill them all.
Melee units having good movement gives hope for other melee focussed units.
Yeah, nids will be so much more than just codex flyrant, it’s awesome.
Thanks for the write up man. It’s starting to look good.
Glad you liked it. Nids are back, baby!
Oh man they sound scary! That immunity to morale in synapse range is so good, it’s like every synapse creature is a General Lord-Celestant on Dracoth 😛
Targeting synapse is going to be so important vs. horde Tyranid, but not because those units will then suck which is great for the Tyranid player.
Yeah, exactly. They play a lot more like you’d think you would, now. All the bugs have a place, from small to huge.
The swarmlord sounds amazong in cc. But more then that I am hyped for his ability to buff other Nids. Reminds me of the speed boost in the DoW2:Retribution campain 😉
And I am even more hyped for the fast units and moral-immunity of Nids. That is so very powerful I am jumping up and down since I read it on facebook.
Finally beeing able to play my Nids to the fluff again without beeing laught at. Don’t remember doing it since I played them in the early 4th edition. Back then my Hormagants did pretty nasty things to guard and Tau =3
I’m assembling and paint 24 more hormagants now 🙂
I have 40 unpainted hormagaunts that have been sitting on my shelf. They will be my next project.
You will not regret that decision =)
I am really looking forward to pulling out my Hormies again. Honestly, I found them pretty vicious even through the end of 4th, but either way, they’ve been on a long downhill slide.
OK, the only Horde army I don’t own is Nids and this makes me want to play horde nids. All the HORMAGAUNTS.
All the melee only Nids models are my favs, Hormies, OG Carnifex, Trygon, Raveners. I really want an old school style army that’s almost all hormies, 4 claw carnifexes, and warriors sprinkled in for synapse.
Also, this gives me hope that Orks are going to have Mob Rule work like 4th ed instead.
You can do all of those things, now =)
Hm, I wonder if the Swarmlord’s ability lets you choose to Advance in the Shooting Phase as well. If he uses it on Genestealers, that unit can Move 8″ + Advance, Move 8″ + Advance, Charge. 16″ + 4d6″ of distance in one turn! Insanity.
Can’t wait to see more armies! Your guys’ writeups are great.
Glad you are enjoying the previews!
Finally! People will be afraid of genestealers again and tyranids in general.
Reminds me of 2nd edition when i played tyranids and my friends started swetting real bad when my genestealers got close to his marines.
So hyped!
Man, everytime I see new rules for Genestealers (ever since the Cult codex) I worry about my Harlequins!
They used to be roughly comparable, but the Stealers really started taking the lead on that one! Maybe, Harlies get to nake a comeback, too
Harlequins are AMAZING. Do not worry, at all, lol. =)
Basically every harlequin unit has a good CC weapon and a really good pistol of some sort. I am fairly certain harlequins are going to trash units in combat with their fusion and neuron pistols.
Yeah, it’s the core rules changes that make Harlies so crazy good. As a pure faction army, they’re 100% viable as opposed to know where a harlequin army is bad to awful.
*Make
Nice article, Reece.
But I can’t believe you didn’t choose to highlight the Maleceptor!?!?! =p
Haha, there are so many bad units in the Nid dex I couldn’t cover how all of them improved in my word count limit.
But, I am glad you enjoyed it.
You speak the truth…..soooooo many bad units in the current ‘nid codex.
Yes, the current dex is tragically bad. I nerd raged hard when I read it, I actually got physically angry, lol. You could still play the book until stupid ignores cover grav came around and then that was it for the Bugs.
Well, that and no toe in cover for the big boys! Basically that rule just said- “Flyrant” or “wrong choice”.
SOOOOOOOOO GREAT!!!!!
Pyrovores useful? Surely you’re trolling us now, Reece? :p
Now how about them maleceptors?
Vastly improved.
Hoorah! They look amazing but somehow managed to take the fail crown from pyrovores, a truly monumental feat. Think I’ll be buying one now!
They’ll get a Psychic Nova power that deals 2d6 mortal wounds to every units within 12″. I won’t accept nothing less after the shame they used to be 😛
Not trolling at all, ahaha, they’re actually really damn good, now.
Wow They aren’t messing around with close combat abilities. Can’t wait to see what Orks look like.
I may or may not have also written the Ork preview article =)
You probably focus on trukks though! Cause youz a weedy evil sunz and not a kunnin Blood Axe!
Haha, I do prefer Trukk orks, but I tested every type of ork army I could. All foot, all elite, horde, bikers, trukks, dread mob, etc. Orks are just good all around once you get the hang of them.
I want to dust off my killa kans and deff dred!
Wait, wasn’t Reece the proponent of the Ork death star? My memory of all the different (and opposing) stances Reecius is linked to is poor
I am exciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite!
Tyranids were my first 40k army back in 3rd edition, I can’t wait to get them back on the table again. Good rules for the first time since 4th edition!
I’m twistedly glad Warriors stayed at t4 w3. Now it sounds like a decent profile, with no instant death and just a few weapons doing d6 damage. Also, it probably means Warriors will be cheap enough to field them in decent numbers.
I always liked to play lists with beetwen 1/3 and 1/2 of my list invested in midrange ‘nids. All of them are useless with codex: flyrants, and they were weak when it was codex: biomancy. It’s been years, but maybe it can work in 8th.
Thanks for the article, specially on the hints on Warriors and Pyrovores.
Happy to help =)
Scary ‘Nids? In my Warhams? It’s more likely than you think.
I wonder if the flying warrior units (shrikes I think? man GW over uses that name) will be good. I would love to buy a bunch of start collecting nid boxes a field an army of all flyrants, shrikes, and gargoyles.
Medium bugs are viable 🙂
Thanks so much for getting this out there! This, more than any, is the one I was most excited for seeing. I find it crazy that Nids get immunity to Battleshock while in Synapse – that’s extremely potent! I guess outside of Synapse though, those Nids have terrible leadership so that any casualties pretty much start counting double, eh? In any case, that’s great.
Swarmlord is a BEAST in this. Now that’s a special character I can be proud of.
Glad you like it 🙂 and very much yes, nids are back. Synapse is very powerful but as you guess, out of synapse they’re very vulnerable.
Just as long as “instinctive behavior: sucks to be you” is gone
Christ, it’s stuff like this that tempts me back into playing 40k, let alone Nids…
Hopefully Orks are just as varied/fun!
Might have to invest in a new Nid army soon. Those Haruspex models are super cool and if they get some lovin’ in 8th then there will be very little will power against getting some, ha ha!!!
