List Review

I am reviving my Dark Eldar in anticipation of a new codex and as I want a change from my Dark Angels.  Was hoping you could give me your thoughts on this hyper Alpha Strike List:

2000 Pts Dark Eldar-

Troop 1 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

Troop 2 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

Troop 3 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

Troop 4 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

Troop 5 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

Troop 6 3 Wyches with Pistol/CC Weapon, 1 Wych with Hydra Gauntlets or Razorflails(still undecided here.) 1 Hekatrix w/Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

ELITES:

Elite 1 1 Hekatrix Bloodbride w/Splinter Pistol and CC Weapon,  1 Hekatrix Bloodbride w/HydraGauntlets or RazorFlails 1 Syren w/ Splinter Pistol and Agoniser Haywire Grenades Venom w/Splinter Cannons

HQ:

Duke Sliscus

Asdrubael Vect

Heavy Support:

Heavy 1 VoidRaven Bomber 2x Nerotoxin Missile, Flicker Field

Heavy 2 VoidRaven Bomber 2x Nerotoxin Missile, Flicker Field

Heavy 3 Ravager Flickerfield

TOTAL = 1995

The HQs always hop in the Bloodbride Transport at game start.  Basic overall plan involves ramming vehicles and Wyches down my opponents throat.  Double Splinter Cannons on all 7 venoms helps soften any unit/creatures with Toughness values as I charge in.  THe FLyers and Ravager Focus down any main Armor my opponent has. I still am working on putting this together so I am open to any suggestions though I want to keep the feel similar but still be competetive.   Thanks again for the great shows and look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Only 20 A7Vs were made. They weren ‘t good at crossing difficult terrain (compare how the mk IV would exit a ditch) and were top heavy. Plus they were ready only in ’18.

  2. Knights are AV12 on the side; Thunderfire Cannons can hurt them, as can Shadow Weavers.

Stomp makes tarpitting a Knight really, really hard to do for very long. It can be viable to hold them for a turn or so, but often it won’t keep them for very long. Melee also tends to be a pretty suicidal way to deal with them, as the explosion will often take out most things in their vicinity when they die.

    1. They are indeed side AV12, thanks. And I have actually never had an issue with super heavies blowing me up after killing them in HtH, personally. I have seen it do catastrophic things, but in general terms, I hasn’t been that bad.

Stomps can be rough, true, but with an average of 2 and 1/6 of those doing nothing, if you space your models well around it’s base, you can mitigate it. Model positioning is key, string your models out, multi-assault, etc. to try and minimize clumping. But yes, the stomps can be rough.

      1. It’s not nearly as bad now that Str D doesn’t just cut through all defenses automatically, definitely. I’ve had Knight explosions do some ridiculous things, though (like at the Guardian Cup when my Knight suicided with another Knight, and then the explosion scattered off and killed a third Knight…) and especially when you are sending high-value melee units at them it can be very dicey. A Guardsmen blob with meltabombs stands a very good chance of killing one, for example, but will generally lose most of its numbers in the process.

Model spacing can mitigate Stomp somewhat, but you’re still looking at losing 12+ guys with carapace armor to it each turn, which adds up fast. As I said, not that you _can’t_ tarpit them at all, but it’s usually for a pretty short duration (though that can be enough.)

  3. I’ve spied an image of Logan and chariot via Faet212. He’s riding a short viking-style longboat (possibly the size of a land speeder?) with a wolf out front. The Logan model looks amazing and overall, the only gripe I have is that the pulling wolf looks kinda small but that could be just the picture.

  4. From my experience at the BAO, what worked best at killing my Scorpion (and would probably be fine at killing a Knight) were units with good invulnerable saves. Getting a 6 to squash some TH/SS terminators is great, but unfortunately, rolling a 6 isn’t exactly reliable, even on D3 attempts. By the time they do finally get out of combat with units like Wraiths, TH/SS Terminators, etc., they’re probably only down to 1-2 HP and can be easily finished off.

    1. In the current FAQ the Q/A was removed, but in 5th and in 6th if no Warriors or Trueborn were present he deployed like any normal IC. Since it was a Q/A and not an errata or amendment, I would still allow it. Granted I have no TO experience.

  5. I think running that many wyches in venoms is a sure way of being tabled turn 3 or 4. Venoms honestly are a little sub par to raiders when it comes to close range engagements thanks to the 1 less HP and half the transport capacity. It’s my experience that they tend to do better with a squad of true born in them with a couple splinter cannons towards the DE player back field and can act as an emergency anti tank unit with their haywires incase of back field drop pods and other nonsense. I do run a squad or 2 of haywire wyches sometimes but generally they tend to die pretty quick as most opponents know they are an easy couple KP’s if they haven’t already done their job. If you want to run a heavy CC list in 7th I would go with a wrack list as they all have 2 attacks (they have 2 CC weapons), poisoned 4+ weapons, T4, and FNP off the bat and cost the same amount of points, whaaaat? Lol it is good stuff.
