Herald of the Horned Rat Revealed Alongside Warhammer+ Festive Loot and New Episodes

Herald of the Horned Rat brings classic Skaven scheming back to Black Library with a wonderfully unreliable protagonist.

Meanwhile, Warhammer+ is adding fresh Khazalite lore and another Tale of Four Gamers episode. Subscribers can also enter a substantial festive prize draw. Together, the announcements mix fiction, hobby content, and some surprisingly useful digital rewards.

Herald of the Horned Rat Sends Morrskeet After Thunder Crag

Herald of the Horned Rat

Robbie MacNiven’s Herald of the Horned Rat follows Morrskeet, a Grey Seer whose reputation greatly exceeds his actual abilities. Naturally, Morrskeet claims peerless magical skill and even divine intervention from the Horned Rat. However, those boasts become awkward when Vizzik Skour chooses him for a genuinely dangerous competition. The Prophet of the Horned Rat needs a worthy herald, so rival Skaven must capture Thunder Crag first. More specifically, the winner must seize the huge Sigmarite fortress and raise a screaming bell atop its summit.

Consequently, Morrskeet faces more than the fortress defenders during his climb toward glory. Sorcerous rivals plot against him, while Eshin assassins add hidden blades to the usual Skaven backstabbing. The real twist is that Morrskeet gradually confronts an unsettling possibility. Despite his exaggerations, he might actually be the Horned Rat’s chosen herald. That setup sounds wonderfully Skaven, mixing cowardice, ambition, treachery, and accidental heroics. A numbered special edition hardback will include an author introduction and an appropriately manic Morrskeet cover.

MacNiven’s Carcharodons trilogy (a personal favorite of mine) also remains available for readers wanting more of his Black Library work. Pre-orders for Herald of the Horned Rat are coming soon.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Herald of the Horned Rat looks like classic Skaven fiction with exactly the right mixture of menace and absurdity. Meanwhile, Warhammer+ continues widening its mix of lore, hobby programming, and subscriber extras.
