Cryx is returning with a fleet that plays very differently from the old Black Fleet.
The new army leans into numbers, battlefield manipulation, and carefully timed bursts of violence. However, individual models are not meant to win fights through raw stats alone. Instead, Cryx Dread Armada tactics revolve around weakening enemies before the whole crew piles in. This is a summary of a community post found here.
Dreadtides Turn the Battlefield Into Cryx Territory

The Dread Armada brings the sea with it through shallow water effects and its unique dreadtide mechanic. Certain models summon physical dreadtide markers, giving the army both protection and offensive setup. While nearby, Dread Armada models gain benefits against enemy ranged attacks, helping the swarm survive its advance. In practice, shooting the fleet should feel like firing through mist, wind, and rough water. However, dreadtides are not static defensive bubbles.

They move across the battlefield and crash into enemy positions, stripping defenses and setting targets up for punishment. That matters because the Dread Armada is fundamentally a swarm army. Units are relatively cheap, and even the warjacks can trade stronger stat lines for lower costs. Consequently, commanders should expect plenty of bodies rather than a handful of elite pieces.
Individual attacks are deliberately unimpressive, with many models producing several low-quality swings instead of reliable knockout blows. The army compensates by stacking negative effects onto the same target. Once dreadtides and other debuffs combine, mediocre attacks suddenly become much more threatening.

Therefore, sequencing matters more than simply charging everything forward at once. Use dreadtides to protect the next wave, soften the chosen target, then send several units in together. The army’s damage output should rise and fall like an actual tide. One turn may feel underwhelming while you establish position.
The next can become brutal once several debuffs overlap. Of course, there is still room for classic Cryx swarm pressure. A commander can push a huge number of models forward and force the opponent to solve the problem. The key difference is that the fleet performs best when those waves are coordinated. Dread Armada launches October 15 through MyMiniFactory, with more rules previews promised before release.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Cryx Dread Armada tactics reward patience, setup, and explosive turns rather than straightforward stat-checking. That feels very Cryx, even if the army itself is entirely new. More importantly, dreadtides give the faction a visual and tactical identity that should feel distinctive on the table.
