Nymara the Shadowblade Brings Risky Fury to Warmachine

Fane of Nyrro keeps getting stranger. Nymara the Shadowblade suits players who enjoy controlled chaos.

However, this is not a safe, tidy battlegroup plan. Instead, she turns bad outcomes into terrifying momentum. This is a summary of the community post found here.

Frenzy Becomes a Weapon for Fane of Nyrro

Nymara is an eldritch warlock on an 80mm base with solid stats. However, the real hook is her battlegroup play. She wants swarms of Vordaks and Strygons running hot on fury. That sounds reckless, especially with her ARC 5 limit. Instead of avoiding frenzy, Nymara makes frenzy a weapon through Feral Onslaught.

Feral Onslaught 2 When a warbeast in Nymaras battlegroup fails a threshold check Nymara can spend two hunger points If she does the warbeast immediately advances 3 and gains +3 on melee damage rolls until the end of its activation

That hunger ability combines with Fane tricks like choosing targets or frenzying twice. Also, the extra 3-inch move helps beasts gain charge-level damage after cramped turns. That matters, since over-forced beasts often start too close for charge bonuses. Meanwhile, Murder defines how her battlegroup actually kills things.

Nymara grants Murder to her battlegroup, allowing up to plus 3 damage. Fane normally cannot trade models one-for-one like cleaner attrition factions. Therefore, Murder lets several committed beasts hit hard enough to finish the job. Better yet, We Descend adds accuracy, making the package less swingy. On Dark Wings speeds beasts up, while extended control reaches 18 inches. Also, hunger pays for spells and healing, saving fury for melee attacks. The catch is beautifully dangerous. Nymara gains hunger when her fury-loaded warbeasts die. That rewards aggressive trading, but only if you stomach the losses.

However, From Lowering Skies softens that pain by returning one beast. It also helps that beast stack Murder more efficiently, which is a nasty double dip. Deflection helps DEF 13 and 14 beasts survive incoming shots.

Meanwhile, Borne Aloft gives a beast either extra protection or extra damage. The spell ends when the beast attacks or takes damage. Still, for one cost, plus 2 damage across many beasts adds up quickly. The plus 3 ARM side helps Shield Guard Strygons absorb fire. Also, Shadow Shift makes reducing one key hit especially valuable. Finally, Slingshot adds movement tricks, because Fane apparently needed more angles.

Nymara herself can scrap too. In melee, she brings a POW 15 attack and two POW 16 initials. With Murder and We Descend, those reach MAT 10 and POW 18 or 19. Also, spare hunger can make the POW 15 attack weapon master. At range, her Javelin uses Skewer to drag enemies into Murder range. For more details, read the original Steamforged article.

Summary and Final Thoughts

Overall, Nymara looks like a high-risk warlock with a brutal payoff. She wants beasts dying, frenzying, returning, and murdering targets in waves. However, that makes her feel distinct rather than merely efficient. For aggressive puzzle players, she looks wonderfully nasty.
