Two new Black Library novels are about to hit pre-orders, and they aim in totally different directions. So you get one story rooted in faith, relics, and awful choices.
Meanwhile, the other is pure scheming Chaos ambition with knives in the dark. Both books star established characters, which is always a good sign. And because they are both at breaking points, the stakes feel personal.
Aestred Thurga: Pyre of Faith, and the Cost of a Relic
Aestred Thurga is the Reliquant at Arms of the Order Pronatus, and she is in a nasty bind. She has lost a sacred blade, the Sword of Saarim, to the forces of Nurgle. She was ambushed, yet for someone this devout, the only absolution is recovery. However, getting it back sounds like walking into a trap with incense.
The real hook is the choice she is forced toward. The dead are rising and Imperial civilians are in danger, so the crisis is immediate. Yet the sword is tied to history, meaning the Imperium’s identity and her own beliefs are on the line. So she may have to decide whether mortal lives matter more than immortal legacy, and that is a brutal faith test.
Ghost Legion: Solomon Akurra’s Long Game Gets Crowded
On the other side, Ghost Legion follows Harrowmaster Solomon Akurra, who is already winning. He has united Alpha Legion warbands and carved out a domain. However, he wants more, and he is aiming at the wider Imperium. He is doing it with the Pale Spear in hand, or at least a weapon he claims is the Pale Spear, which is peak Alpha Legion energy.
Of course, success draws heat. A huge Imperial assault force and plenty of assassins are coming for him. So Akurra’s schemes will be stress tested, because holding power is harder than taking it. He is ready to play the long game, yet his warriors might not be as patient.
Summary
These books offer two flavors of high pressure 40k. Pyre of Faith is a relic hunt with moral consequences, while Ghost Legion is ambition, deception, and survival under Imperial retaliation. Both are heading to pre-orders soon, so keep an eye on Warhammer Community for the exact drop.
