2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Warhammer Quest, Games Workshop’s beloved co-operative dungeon crawler set in the Old World.
First released in 1995, the original game saw a Barbarian, Elf, Dwarf, and Wizard band together to plunder dark lairs and survive against hordes of monsters using Dungeon Cards, modular tiles, and a massive Adventure Book packed with replayable objectives.
The game was notable for its co-operative nature – a rarity for Warhammer titles at the time – where players fought AI-controlled foes but always had one eye on becoming the party’s most legendary hero. A separate Roleplay Book expanded the experience with rules for town visits, gold spending, and self-made adventures, while future releases added classic characters like the Witch Hunter, Chaos Warrior, and Bretonnian Knight.
Two expansions, Lair of the Orc Lord and Catacombs of Terror, followed quickly, introducing new threats like Orc Warlord Gorgut and the undead Dread King. A dedicated magazine, Deathblow, offered additional content and ideas, helping to build a cult following that remains active today.
To celebrate this milestone, Warhammer TV has launched a new season of Questing Nights on Warhammer+, where presenter Nick leads a team of fellow hosts through a new campaign using an original 1995 set lovingly restored and painted in vintage ‘90s style. The first episode is now live for subscribers.
Fans visiting Warhammer World before July 6th can also view a special Warhammer Quest display showcasing decades of miniatures and memorabilia from across the franchise’s evolution.
From humble cardboard dungeons to enduring fan devotion, Warhammer Quest has stood the test of time – and it’s getting the birthday celebration it deserves.
