The new edition of Warhammer Underworlds is ushering in significant changes, making it the perfect time for both new and veteran players to jump in. With a revamped ruleset and a focus on accessibility, the game is positioned to appeal to a wider audience while maintaining the strategic depth that fans have come to love.
Core Rule Changes and Streamlining
The rules have been rewritten to offer more clarity and simplicity, providing a streamlined experience that is easier to understand while preserving the depth of gameplay. This new edition leaves behind all previous cards, creating a fresh start for players and leveling the playing field. Whether you’re new or returning, you can dive right into the action without the baggage of prior expansions.
Warhammer Underworlds: Embergard Core Set
The centerpiece of the new edition is the Warhammer Underworlds: Embergard core set. This set includes:
- Two warbands with their associated cards.
- Tokens, dice, and a double-sided board.
- Four Rivals decks, representing the game’s core playstyles: Strike, Take and Hold, Mastery, and Flex.
These decks can be mixed and matched with any warband, giving players countless combinations to explore. Each warband now comes with a warscroll outlining unique actions and a suggested playstyle, but players are encouraged to experiment with different decks for creative, powerful synergies.
No More Seasonal Boxed Sets
Unlike previous editions, Embergard will be the core set for the entire lifespan of this edition. While new warbands and Rivals decks will be released regularly, there won’t be any new season boxed sets, making Embergard the definitive starting point for this edition of Warhammer Underworlds.
58 Warbands Updated
All 58 warbands from the current edition are receiving updated warscroll cards and fighter cards. Sixteen of these warbands will get physical cards available through the Grand Alliance boxes, while the rest will have their cards available as free downloads at launch. You can pair any of these warbands with the Rivals decks from Embergard or future releases, allowing you to get right into the action without extensive deck-building.
Deck-building and Nemesis Mode
For those who enjoy the strategic depth of deck-building, the new edition will also feature a revamped Nemesis mode, which will be detailed in upcoming announcements. This ensures that while the game has been simplified for quicker play, it still offers deeper layers for competitive players.
Pre-Order and Future Updates
The Embergard core set will be available for pre-order on Saturday, making it the ideal opportunity for players to join this new era of Warhammer Underworlds. Stay tuned for more news next week, including an in-depth look at Nemesis mode and further details about the first upcoming warbands.
This new edition marks a fresh, exciting chapter for Warhammer Underworlds, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned veteran.
