Check out the updated Baron Zemo for the new MCP Core Set!
Prepare yourself for a journey fit for royalty in this edition of From Panel to Play. While he might not be recognized as a monarch in any land, today’s central character boasts an ego rivaling the world’s mightiest leaders. We’re unveiling the mystique surrounding Baron Helmut Zemo!
The number thirteen might be a charm for some, but anyone crossing paths with the thirteenth Baron Zemo quickly reconsiders. Instilled with a familial belief that only his lineage deserves to reign supreme, Helmut Zemo embodies some of the most sinister traits of his ancestors.
Yet, while mirroring his father, particularly after a regrettable incident involving Adhesive X, Helmut Zemo distinguishes himself. A modern polymath, Zemo excels as both a scientist and engineer, coupling his intellect with combat prowess that few can rival. His leadership extends beyond personal feats, as he’s often seen at the helm of supervillain teams and notorious groups, notably including an alliance with Hydra and his command over the Army of Evil.
When brought to the tabletop, Baron Helmut Zemo is represented as a 4 Threat figure, endowed with 4 Physical, 3 Energy, and 4 Mystic defense. With 5 Stamina on his Healthy side and 6 on his Injured, Zemo is complemented by a Medium Movement speed.
Zemo’s fondness for technology doesn’t overshadow his penchant for the personal touch. His primary Sword Strike spans a range of 2 and launches with 5 dice. Any damage dealt translates to Power, and his uncanny precision allows him to Pierce defenses. When rolling a Critical and Wild during his assault, Zemo can unleash his Dancing Strike, enabling him to advance after the blow.
Despite it being a source of past pain, Baron Helmut Zemo doesn’t shy away from employing his father’s malicious Adhesive X formula. This potent concoction, bonding with virtually any material and near impossible to eliminate, brings its own set of challenging conditions for enemies to counter. Lucky rolls can cripple opponents with multiple debilitating effects.
Zemo, a master at swordplay, possesses a finesse in combat comparable to the fluid grace of a cascading waterfall. His Coup de Grâce attack, which extends to Range 3 and wields 7 dice, is not merely forceful; it permits him to move forward upon Dazing or KO’ing an opponent.
The Army of Evil Leadership presents an innovative approach for the Hydra faction in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Team Tactic Cards epitomize peak moments in gameplay, and this Leadership amplifies their influence in two significant manners. While traditionally players can choose only 5 cards for a game, this Leadership grants an extra, either Hydra-affiliated or Unaffiliated. Moreover, it simplifies the dilemma of Power allocation for card play or character superpowers. Players can now reimburse a Power after deploying a Team Tactic Card – truly the best of both worlds!
Zemo’s agility on the battlefield is unmatched, often catching foes off guard. His Quick Step Superpower enables swift Medium Advances at the cost of 2 Power, though it comes with the caveat of being objective-free. Meanwhile, his Master Duelist trait ensures he capitalizes on opponent vulnerabilities, allowing for enhanced dice rolls during a consecutive attack in one turn.
Lastly, embodying the essence of a Strategic Genius, Zemo doesn’t only enhance his game but also bolsters his allies. This innate skill grants both him and proximate allies the chance to reroll a die in any attack or defense maneuver.
And so, we pull back the curtain on the enigmatic Baron Helmut Zemo, a figure of complexity, might, and strategy. Until next time!
