Kepis & Bayonets On The Way From Studio Tomahawk

Muskets & Tomahawks, currently in its second edition, is about to get its third expansion. Let’s take a look!

Studio Tomahawk is a French studio, responsible for the wildly successful Saga and V for Victory games. In 2020 they released a second edition for another of their notable titles, Muskets & Tomahawks. The original game was set during the French & Indian War and focused on skirmish battles with roughly 30 to 50 models per side. It was fast paced, bloody, and used a fairly unusual card activation system. The second edition iterated on the more interesting rules and set them up in a core book (called Muskets & Tomahawks) that could then be paired with expansions to depict different conflicts. The first expansion, Redcoats & Tomahawks, recreated the original setting, but the following book, Shakos & Bayonets, took it into the Napoleonic Wars. Now there is a third installment that will push the boundaries of the rules to very edges of the 19th century: Kepis & Bayonets.

Kepis & Bayonets will focus on two wars from the later half of the 19th Century: The American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. Miniatures for both wars can be found from a number of manufacturers, including some excellent plastic and metal ranges from the Perry brothers. The book will contain army lists and campaigns for both conflicts, period specific traits, command abilities and random events table, as well as some generic scenarios. There is also a Deluxe release of the rules which will come with both the base game and expansion, as well as cardboard tokens and bespoke command cards for the unique activation system.

Kepis & Bayonets promises to be a good time for anyone looking to put together an ACW or Franco-Prussian force, or for those (like yours truly) who need a reason to dust off their old models . What do you think? Are you excited for some 19th Century skirmish action? Sound off in the comments!
