Flames of War Blitzkrieg British Command Cards: Sappers, Portees, and Sneaky Redeploys

If you are cracking open Blitzkrieg for Early War Britain, this deck is a treat. It has the familiar staples like Softskin Transport and Lucky.

However, it also brings a ton of British flavour and list shaping tricks. So you can build forces that feel distinct, not cookie cutter. And if you love tinkering, these cards reward that mindset.

Build Cards that Change How Your Army Functions

First, the deck leans hard into build cards for units and formations. For example, the Sapper Platoon card is a big deal for Rifle Company players. It lets you add an engineer rifle support platoon that crosses minefields and digs in on a 3+. Moreover, it can scale up to 13 teams, which is chunky for objectives. Consequently, it takes eight hits to pin instead of five, so it sticks around.

Meanwhile, there’s a tasty combo for anti tank fans. You can replace a 2pdr troop with French 25mm guns using the 25mm Anti Tank Troop card. Then, the Portees card mounts those guns on trucks for a mobile weapons platform. So your anti tank tools can reposition instead of camping.

Additionally, Territorial Artillery Field Troops give cheaper artillery options. However, the trade is worse ratings, since they are Trained instead of Veteran. Likewise, they are Aggressive rather than Careful, so they will get tagged more easily. Still, they help you hit a points balance while keeping firepower on the table.

Formation Tricks: Night March and Armoured Cars

If you enjoy mind games, Night March is the kind of card you always remember after it wins you a match. It lets a Rifle Company redeploy one platoon after both sides deploy. Therefore, you can react to an enemy plan instead of guessing. And if your opponent overcommits, you can pivot fast.

On the recon side, Armoured Car Squadron stands out as a themed formation. It brings an HQ and up to three Morris CS9 units. Additionally, it can take a Sapper Platoon option, which is a nasty pairing. So it reads like a solid secondary formation behind A13s or Div Cav.

Force and Warrior Cards: Air Denial and Monty Swagger

For force cards, Fighter Interception is the spicy one. For 1 point, you can force your opponent to reroll aircraft arrival that turn. Moreover, it is not limited, so you can buy multiples. Consequently, in a six turn game, you can really mess with an air plan.

Finally, the deck includes three Rifle Company Warrior cards. Bernard Montgomery is the headline name, of course. He helps nearby units pass Last Stand on a 3+. Also, if you are defending, you can opt into Dusk rules and fight at night, which is peak cinematic Britain.
