Nagash has one big dream: a deathless Necrotopia across every Mortal Realm. However, even a god has trouble managing deluded monsters and bickering bloodsuckers.
So he made the Ossiarch Bonereapers, his perfectly loyal elite legion. Now Katakros has been ordered to tighten the whole war machine for the Hour of Ruin. Therefore, the new battletome brings fresh bone constructs and a revamped battle trait. And if you like armies that feel like a disciplined engine, this is your jam.
Relentless Discipline is your new command economy
The Bonereapers run on Immortal Elite officers who keep everything moving in lockstep. Each battle round, one of your heroes generates Relentless Discipline points based on rank. Katakros generates 10, while mounted or chariot Liege-Kavalos generate 6, and Mortisan wizards generate 2. You then spend these points on Relentless Discipline abilities throughout the round. Any unspent points fade away, so you are rewarded for using them, not hoarding them.
Most of these abilities cost 1 point. However, reinforced units above half strength pay 2 points instead, which is a nice tax on big bricks.
The key abilities and what they do on the table
Remorseless March is your movement punch. You spend the points and gain +3 inches Move for the phase, yet you cannot Run afterward. Meanwhile, Impassive Retreat is the cheeky one, because it lets a unit retreat and then charge back in. Ruthless Extermination is your shooting spike, and it makes ward saves worse by subtracting 1 from ward rolls for damage caused by that Shoot. Pitiless Assault adds 1 to wound rolls in combat, so it is your reliable melee buff. Inviolate Legions grants Ward 5+ as units hunker into defensive positions, so it is your survival button when the clapback arrives.
Katakros: objectives, fight twice, and the angry panic switch
Katakros is still the military genius, so he naturally fuels this whole system. He also boosts objective play by adding 3 to the control score of any visible unit that used a discipline ability that turn. Then he goes further with Supreme Lord of the Bonereaper Legions, which can make an Ossiarch unit fight twice. The cost is points equal to the target unit’s Health, plus 1 more if it is reinforced and above half strength. After the first fight, the unit gets Strike Last, and it also cannot use more discipline abilities that phase.
If things go badly and at least half your starting units are dead, Katakros can trigger You Dare?! once per battle. For that battle round, Inda-Khaat jumps from 3 attacks to 8, and The Shield Immortis goes from 3 to 6. However, he cannot use the fight twice command that round, because he is busy personally throwing hands.
Summary
This battletome update makes Bonereapers feel even more like a precise, ranked war machine. Relentless Discipline points create constant micro choices each round, while reinforced units pay extra to flex. Meanwhile, Katakros boosts objective control, enables a brutal fight twice play, and then has a late-game rage button when the army is bleeding out. Finally, the article teases many more warscroll changes and promises new unit reveals next, including long-awaited archers.
