Warhammer and creativity go together like bolt pistols and chainswords. So, it is hard not to name every hero after a clutch roll.
However, the Crucible of Champions rules finally make that habit official. Consequently, you can build a character and write rules for them too. And yes, the hobby brain immediately starts kitbashing.
Graeme’s Necron Noble Gone Full Flayer
Graeme is starting 2026 with Necrons, and he beelined for the Flayer Curse. Since he recently read The Twice Dead King, Flayed Ones were already living rent free. So, he grabbed a spare Overlord and a Flayed Ones kit. Then he swapped the head, picked regal arms, and kept the pose scary.
He also trimmed tassels, added a severed arm, and slapped on flayed skin. Therefore, Ashnasir the Excoriator got a creepy demi-cloak. On the rules side, he went Dynastic Conqueror with Flayer Curse. He packed flayer claws and United In Destruction for tasty Lethal Hits. However, he has not fielded Ashnasir yet, because he needs painted Flayed Ones.
Rob’s Rapid Fire T’au and Weird Mechanised Ideas
Rob saw the book and got giddy, which feels relatable. So, he built a new T’au leader for Pathfinders, because Darkstrider cannot be everywhere. He used the Shas’nel archetype with Veteran Scout, then kitbashed Darkstrider and Pathfinder bits. Meanwhile, a cork wedge fixed Darkstrider’s forward lean.
He also armed the new guy with a rail rifle, which is spicy. Better yet, Volley Fire stacks hard, because it boosts rail rifles too. Consequently, Sub-commander Sharpspear helps Pathfinders spike damage fast. After that, Rob chased oddball builds like a Phobos Techmarine. Then he converted a Sentinel with an open hatch, because vibes matter. Finally, he made Overlord Vesztakh, the Thronebound King, riding a Triarch Stalker “throne.”
Andy’s Deathwing Champion With Serious Lion Energy
Andy loves army lore, so these rules hit perfectly. Therefore, he built a Deathwing Champion for Terminator Assault. He mixed Captain parts, upgrade bits, and a Saturnine head. Then he added a lion pelt by hacking Wolf Guard pieces. Also, he used a Lion Chariots head to sell the trophy.
Rules wise, he took Terminator Armour and Tactical Precision. Moreover, his Halberd of Caliban counts as a Great weapon of the Unforgiven. He skipped guns for classic posing, although plasma talons are tempting. In the article, he names him Zerachiel, Champion of the Deathwing, Heir of Corswain. Finally, he stresses it is personal army lore, not new canon.
Summary
In summary, Crucible of Champions is pure hobby fuel with points and keywords attached. So, you can turn kitbash ideas into playable leaders with real table impact. Meanwhile, Warhammer Community is already filling with wild conversions and homebrew legends. Therefore, if you want your army to feel truly yours, this is the moment to go for it.
