Everybody loves to argue the best Star Wars battle. However, we all know the real answer is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story vibes and Battle of Scarif energy.
Still, Star Wars: Legion is pivoting hard to snow season. So we just got two new Battle of Hoth army boxes revealed, one for each side. And while they release April 3, they are up for pre-order now on Asmodee’s webstore.
Two Recon Armies, Two Alt Sculpts, One Clear Pitch
Both boxes are built as 600-point Recon-level armies, so they are meant to hit the table fast. Additionally, each set includes a special alternate sculpt for either Darth Vader or Leia Organa, which is catnip for collectors. The price tag is $139.99 each, and therefore the value question becomes simple. Are these the exact squads you want to build around, right now?
What’s in Each Box
The Echo Base Defenders set leans into heroes and mobility. So you get 20 Rebel Veterans, two Tauntaun Riders, two Medium Blaster Troopers, R2-D2, C-3PO, and that alternate Leia. Meanwhile, the Blizzard Force set brings more bodies and a colder vibe. So it includes 22 Snowtroopers, 11 Stormtroopers, two Imperial Probe Droids, and the alternate Vader.
The Fine Print, and the Hobby Side-Eye
Unlike earlier army boxes, these do not sound like true starters. However, while the listing hints at dice and tools, the text says that might not be accurate, and Atomic Mass Games was contacted to confirm. Also, it is worth a chuckle that the promo paint job is not on snowy bases, because The Empire Strikes Back did not exactly hide the weather.
Summary
Overall, both boxes look like solid savings if you want these exact units, and that alt sculpt sweetens the deal. However, the Empire set has a rules gotcha, since the name matches a Battle Force but the contents do not legally field it. So if you want that formation, you must add a Speeder Bike or an E-Web Heavy Blaster Team yourself.
