Grotmas Day 7 – When Blood Angels Finally Snap

Blood Angels players always walk a tightrope between noble heroics and absolute murder frenzy, and Rage-cursed Onslaught is the detachment that says “stop pretending and let the rage win.”

It delivers a fast, brutal melee playstyle where Death Company shine and controlled chaos becomes your biggest weapon. Because of this, it’s perfect for anyone who wants to push the Sons of Sanguinius into their most savage form.

What the Detachment Actually Does

The core rule gives all Adeptus Astartes re rolls of 1 to wound in melee. When your units charge, they gain +1 Attack, or +2 if they’re battle shocked. This means the detachment rewards you for leaning into the fury you normally fear, and Death Company naturally become the stars of the list because they benefit from every part of the package.

Upgrades That Push the Rage Even Harder

The Enhancements push aggression while letting you manipulate Battle shock. One grants Scout 6 and a six inch aura letting units re roll Battle shock tests, useful for intentionally failing when you want extra attacks. Another gives Death Company +1 Strength in melee. A third offers a once per game fight first, while the last provides Sustained Hits 2 against Monsters, Vehicles, and Characters, turning a character into a deadly finisher.

Stratagems Built Around Controlled Madness

The Stratagems offer stronger buffs if you battle shock your own units. You can advance and shoot or charge, but if you accept Battle shock you can advance, shoot, and charge. Another gives +1 Strength or +1 AP, or both if you take Battle shock. You also get tools for reducing enemy AP, securing objectives when your units die, giving Death Company a 5+ Feel No Pain, and letting them fight on death.

How It Feels on the Table

Rage-cursed Onslaught turns the Blood Angels into a pressure-heavy melee army that surges forward and trades recklessly. Because you can turn Battle shock into a benefit, your best turns happen when your units hit hard while fighting on the edge. Death Company become the centerpiece, backed by characters carrying rage-focused Enhancements and Stratagems that turn key charges into devastating momentum swings.

Final Thoughts

This detachment finally embraces the Blood Angels’ cursed nature and turns it into a deliberate strategy. If you like cinematic charges, unhinged melee phases, and Death Company doing absurd work, Rage-cursed Onslaught will feel incredible on the table. It is messy, savage, and extremely Blood Angels.
